Our facility is a teaching hospital that offers a comprehensive range of services, equipped with cutting-edge technology, education, and research opportunities. The medical center is situated on a 119-acre campus with 350 acute care beds and provides healthcare services across 12 locations in southeast Texas.

• Conduct clinical assessments, including patient history, physical examinations, and necessary diagnostic evaluations, followed by timely treatment implementation.
• Diagnose and manage hematologic and oncologic emergencies.
• Participate in rounding with residents and fellows on the inpatient service, rotating with other physician team members.
• Provide coverage during weekends and holidays in rotation with fellow physicians.
• Demonstrate proficiency in diagnosing and managing malignant hematology, benign hematology, and solid tumor oncologic diseases.
• Identify and manage side effects related to cancer treatments and hematologic conditions.
• Advise and counsel patients with new diagnoses of malignancies or benign hematologic conditions.
• Educate clinical fellows and residents in the outpatient clinic environment.
• Perform bone marrow biopsies and analyze peripheral smears as necessary.
• Order and interpret diagnostic studies, including laboratory tests, EKGs, and radiological tests (e.g., chest x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, PET scans).
• Provide outpatient care for patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions, including initial and follow-up visits.
• Prescribe chemotherapy and other medications within the defined scope of practice.
• Guide patients on cancer screening, genetic testing, and prevention strategies.
• Respond promptly to consultation requests.
• Offer education and counseling to patients and their families regarding hematologic or oncologic issues.
• Supervise advanced practice practitioners (nurse practitioners, physician assistants) and mentor students, residents, and fellows in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Maintain communication with referring providers and other specialties (surgery, radiation oncology, transplant, etc.) for patients requiring multidisciplinary care.
• Engage in multi-disciplinary tumor board meetings.
• Complete electronic consultations (e-consults) for hematologic and oncologic conditions.
