Supervising Mental Health Specialist - IRTS Southern Team

UBHC’s workforce of 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff is dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. Posting Summary The role of Supervising Mental Health Specialist – IRTS Southern Team is part of the Community Based Services within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. The specialist participates in management and treatment teams, ensures high‑quality, comprehensive person‑centered mental health care, and is responsible for staff supervision, training, and development. Responsibilities Supervise assigned staff. Provide direct care services to individuals served. Ensure all documentation is completed within prescribed time frames and in compliance with UBHC policy and program, funding, and billing requirements. Interact with individuals in a professional, respectful, and supportive manner. Maintain knowledge of policies and procedures. Demonstrate good work habits. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a relevant mental health, social, or human services field and 1 year of full‑time related experience. Equivalent education, experience, or training may satisfy the degree requirement. For Social Work degree holders, an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work. Valid driver’s license. Must be approved by the Department of Corrections and adhere to all DOC requirements for the Intensive Recovery Treatment Support program. Compliance with all security regulations and procedures of the NJ Department of Corrections, including sign‑in logs, electronic time clocks, searches of person and property, etc. Compliance with DOC policies; violations or bans from work in NJ Department of Corrections facilities are grounds for disciplinary action and potential termination. Preferred Qualifications Experience with community‑based service provision to adults. Experience with LCADC. Bi‑lingual in English and Spanish. Physical Demands and Work Environment Clear speaking and proficient writing. Essential hearing ability. Focus on tasks amid interruptions. Extended sitting required for electronic medical record documentation. Frequent driving, walking, standing, bending, and talking with individuals served in community settings and state prisons. Occasional transport of individuals in state vehicles. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Time spent outdoors in all weather conditions. Exposure to unpredictable situations and crises (behavioral, medical, psychiatric). Occasional exposure to assaultive behaviors. Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens requiring personal protective equipment. Special Conditions May need to use own vehicle for travel throughout the state.
