Duties During their careers, special agents carry out assignments in investigations and protection, potentially at multiple duty stations across the U.S. and abroad. Responsibilities include: Providing protection for various protectees. Conducting criminal investigations related to financial obligations of the United States. Planning and implementing security designs for National Special Security Events. This is a unique career. Requirements U.S. citizenship is required. Possess a current valid driver's license. Carry and use a firearm; firearm proficiency is mandatory. Be at least 21 years old at application and less than 37 at conditional job offer, unless previous federal law enforcement service applies. Obtain and retain a Top Secret Clearance. Visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular, corrected to 20/20 in each eye. Hearing loss must not exceed 25 decibels in either ear in specified ranges. Submit to drug testing prior to appointment and random testing thereafter. Complete 13 weeks of training at FLETC and 18 weeks at James J. Rowley Training Center. Willingness to accept assignments nationwide and abroad. Register with the Selective Service System if required.
