Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must be able to pass a skills exam with a minimum score of 90%. Driver's license required. No artificial nails allowed. Description: The unit has a total of 33 beds with an average daily census of 16. The nurse-patient ratio for adults is 1:2-3. Common diagnoses include trauma, cardiac issues, overdoses, adult sepsis, post-stent cases, pacemaker placements, strokes, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress. Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips and manage common titratable drips such as cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation. Nurse aides are available based on census and may assist on the floor or provide one-on-one patient care. Healthcare support technicians are available three days per week. Registered Nurses will troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPap, and high flow oxygen. Shifts run from 0630 to 1830 and 1830 to 0630. Self-scheduling is permitted for core staff, with travelers added as needed. Floating to a Progressive Care Unit or occasionally to MedSurg may occur, maintaining the same patient ratio. A minimum of two holidays is required within the contract timeframe. Weekend requirements include every other weekend. There is one shift of unit-specific orientation. Requests for time off should be submitted upfront, with a limit of seven or fewer days for the 13-week contract. The charting system used is EPIC. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is not required. The facility has a trauma level of 2. The care setting is acute.
