EDUCATION :
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Three years experience as an Instructional Assistant or forty-eight (48) semester college hours, or an equivalent combination of training and experience with a working knowledge and understanding of child growth and development (Forty-eight (48) semester college hours required for Title I Schools only)
CERTIFICATION :
Paraprofessional Certification as required by the State Board and the District High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.

Monitors students who have been referred to a self-contained classroom for a designated time for disciplinary infractions. Paraprofessionals may provide instruction provided they are working under the direct supervision of a "highly qualified teacher" (Title I Schools Only).
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervises students referred and enforces the established rules for this program.
2. Provides assistance to students with work that has been provided.
3. Ensures that students have work sent to them by their teachers.
4. Monitors students to insure they remain on task and complete assigned work.
5. Answers questions that students may ask.
6. Takes attendance and keeps all paperwork that comes from the office up to date.
7. Maintains required records.
8. Maintain confidentiality of information.
9. Reports to work on time every day.
10. Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination and drug testing
• Effective discipline management skills
• Ability to lift 100 pounds with assistance
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Ability to establish rapport with students and staff
• Ability to work with students
• Ability to adapt to quickly changing situations PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is required to walk or run to maintain control of students. The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. This position requires the lifting of students. Specific vision abilities required by this job close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The individual must pass a pre-employment physical examination to include vision, hearing, alcohol and drug testing. WORK ENVIRONMENT:The environmental characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job: The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
