Ambulatory Patient Care Tech - (PRN) - Fredericksburg

Job Summary Ambulatory Patient Care Tech (PRN) – Fredericksburg (260001AI). Work Monday – Friday, day shift as needed. Responsibilities Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare delivery team under the direction of the Registered Nurse to perform basic nursing care activities. Maintain a safe, clean, stocked patient care setting and assist staff members to help direct patient flow; float to other locations as needed. Collect data and accurately document patient information, obtain vital signs, and orient families to clinic environment. Recognize abnormalities, report to Registered Nurse, screen patients for pain, substance abuse, and neglect; remain with distressed child and provide Basic Life Support if necessary. Assist with basic nursing care (nourishment, ambulation, discharge escort, etc.). Ensure equipment (scales, vitals machines, otoscopes, etc.) is in working order and notify RN or repair personnel of needs. Collect specimens for testing, perform POCT and lab draws as applicable, inform patients/guardians of procedures, and offer health resources. Meet Joint Commission/DOH documentation requirements and complete clean sweep tool weekly. Maintain a neat, orderly environment, prepare exam rooms, prioritize tasks, obtain supplies, and monitor waiting area families’ information. Communicate effectively with team, greet families, address anxiety, maintain professional demeanor, and report concerns to the Clinic Manager. Perform laboratory duties including QC, competency challenges, specimen processing, and inventory management. Conduct routine lab tests (urine dipstick, glucose, A1C). Follow directions precisely, maintain confidentiality, attend in‑services, develop educational goals, maintain satisfactory attendance, and complete occupational health requirements. Maintain certifications in Basic Life Support and any required licensure for the jurisdiction. Qualifications Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED (Required). Minimum Work Experience: 1 year experience in an acute healthcare setting – preferably pediatrics (Preferred). Required Licenses and Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) OR Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) OR Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) certification; Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS).
