Reports to: Assisted Living Clinical Director

Position Summary

The Montclair offers a continued, higher level of support for our elderly who are no longer able to live independently. Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Administer physician ordered medication to resident's and maintain related medical records under the supervision of the Clinical Director.

2. Verify identity of residents receiving medication and record name of drug, dosage, route, and time of administration on electronic MAR.

3. Presents medication to resident and observes administration of medication, using certified medication aid training procedures.

4. Takes vital signs or observes residents to detect response to specified types of medication and prepares report or notifies Clinical Director of unexpected reactions.

5. Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.

6. Adheres to medication administration policy.

7. May receive supply of ordered medications and assemble drugs for administration to resident. 

8. May record and restock medication inventory. 

9. Participates in an annual CMA caregiver skills competency check which meets the requirements contained in the standardized clinical skills competency checklist used to certify CMA.

10. Follow state CMA protocols for the community to maintain compliance.

11. May perform the following tasks related to the administration of medications utilizing only unit or multidose packaging of medications:

12. Administer physician ordered oral, ophthalmic, topical, optic, nasal, vaginal and rectal medications.

13. Administer insulin, epinephrine, and B12 pursuant to physical direction and protocol.

14. Administer medications via a metered dose inhaler.

15. Conduct finger stick blood glucose testing following established protocol. 

16. Administer a commercially prepared disposable enema ordered by a physician.

17. Assist residents in the supervisor of self-administration of medication. 

18. Monitors and records temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure, as directed by the Clinical director. 

19. Report significant changes in the residents' condition log and med aide communication log. 

20. Assist residents with simple dressings and empty ostomy bags, Colostomy bags and catheter bags. 

21. Reminds and assists resident in taking pre-measured medications. 

22. Maintains an accurate and complete record of care provided and documents observations appropriately. 

23.  Responsible for maintenance of electronic medical records, assuring accuracy, completeness and compliance with regulations, certification standards, legal and ethical standards. 

24. Supports the residents, family, healthcare providers and vendors.

25. Provides bed bath, shower or tub bath as appropriate.

26. Provides appropriate care of skin, hair, nails, mouth and feet.

27. Provides good body alignment, positioning, and range of motion exercises for non-ambulatory residents • Assists residents in and out of bed and with ambulation.

28. Assists residents with use urinal, commode and bathroom. 

29. Assists with feeding and dressing residents. 

30. Provides personal care to the resident in a compassionate and understanding manner consistent with the Eden philosophy • Maintains the dignity of the resident. 

31. Provides person-centered care to improve the quality of life. 

32. Consults and collaborates with the management team and others involved in the resident's care.

33. Provides oversight of residents and accountability to policies and procedures such as nametags, gait belts, clinical standup/ rounds and professional interactions. 

34. Assists residents during activity programs and mealtimes. 

35. Focuses on solving conflict and not blaming.

36. Listens to others without interrupting and keeps emotions under control- Remains open to others' ideas and tries new things.

37. Maintain state regulation compliance with family, director and physician notification for changes in conditions, incident reporting and medication needs etc. 

38. Other duties as assigned.

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating procedures, policies and employee manuals

· High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation, and interaction with residents' families and families experiencing loss 

· Attention to detail to ensure accuracy 

· Demonstrates and knowledgeable of the Six (6) Rights of Medication Pass ("Right" resident, medication, dosage, time, route, right to refuse).

Requirements:

Ability to meet physical demands: Standing, lifting greater than 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, bending, sitting, reaching, stooping.

Qualifications:

· Current Georgia Med Tech License.

· Current Georgia CNA certification.

· Must successfully clear a background check/ fingerprinting, TB skin test or x-ray, and health screening, drug screening.

· Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
