Senior Research Financial Analyst 40 hour

Position Summary:

Process a wide variety of post-award fiscal management tasks reporting to the Chief, Sponsored Awards Officer, Vice President of Research and Administration HSL and the Marcus Institute for Aging Research with significant collaboration and financial direction from VP, Finance, HSL Healthcare Svcs, Corporate Controller, HSL | Fiscal Services. This position plays a significant role in the management of the HSL (Marcus and Non-Marcus) Sponsored Award portfolio.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage and process a wide variety of post-award management tasks.
  • Set up new accounts 10.10-10.19. Make sure the grants are properly set up in terms of federal award, federal pass through, non-federal, and discretionary. This is the basis for audit.
  • Inactivate and Close out ended sponsored award accounts in line with internal and external accounting principles.
  • Oversee and complete federal monthly draw from PMS system.
  • Submit and/or assist in submission of federal financial reports.
  • Review and Approve Journal entries +120 days to ensure compliance with internal and external accounting principles.
  • Finalize Monthly financial reports for all accounts in the Marcus Institute (Operating, Donor, Sponsored Awards (UBRs):
  • Prepare monthly Marcus Financial Summary Report (manual excel files) which is part of the Marcus dashboard documents; summarize for the Quarterly Business Report (QBR
  • Support institutional transition to workday financials and workday grant management systems.
  • Manage complex month end closing responsibilities related to sponsored awards and special purpose funds: Time and Effort reconciliation to payroll, AR, Financial Reporting, Review and processing of all cost transfers, Invoicing to internal and external partners, new accounts set up and account closures, updating financial dashboard documents.

  • Manage fiscal year end closing in accordance with institutional and sponsored award policies and procedures.
  • Manage accounts receivable (AR), including follow-up with vendors and month end reconciliation of AR, invoicing.
  • Ensure compliance with the Sponsored Awards policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with department Assist in year-end Uniform Guidance Audit (Single Audit)
  • Prepare revenue-related schedules for cost reports.
  •  Perform other related duties as required or as responsibilities dictate.
  •  Reconcile cost report annually.
  • Collaborate with sponsored awards administration and other departments to support the preparation of the indirect cost rate proposal.

  • Additional Roles and Responsibilities will include extensive participation in revising, drafting, and reviewing of Standard Operating procedures with Sponsored Awards leadership.

Qualifications:

  • BA Degree, Business or Financial Analysis, Masters Preferred; experience in research finance administration in an academic setting required.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with diligence and accuracy
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, Access (or similar database experience), and other research and financial management systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management.
  • Knowledge of Sponsored Awards Management with knowledge related to Research Finance, OMB cost accounting principles, Single Audits and F&A rate proposals with the federal government.
