Utility Billing Clerk I

Job Full Description

• Process water utility billing transactions, including meter readings, account updates, bill generation, and payment processing, utilizing billing software and financial systems.


• Respond to customer inquiries and requests regarding billing, payments, account balances, and service connections, providing prompt and courteous assistance to address concerns and resolve issues.


• Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer account records, including account information, billing history, payment history, adjustments, and account notes, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.


• Reconcile billing records, cash receipts, and deposits to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial transactions, investigating discrepancies and resolving issues as needed.


• Prepare and distribute billing statements, delinquency notices, and other correspondence to customers following established procedures and regulatory guidelines.


• Analyze delinquent accounts, identify trends, and recommend appropriate actions such as payment arrangements, collections efforts, or service disconnections, in accordance with departmental policies.


• Assist in preparing financial reports, spreadsheets, and analyses to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities of the department.


• Coordinate with meter readers and field technicians to ensure accurate and timely collection of meter readings for billing purposes.


• Maintain organized records of billing transactions, customer communications, adjustments, and account histories, ensuring compliance with record-keeping requirements and audit standards.


• Other duties as assigned.
