About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of acute care experience required License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH required Must-Have: First-time travelers must have 2 years of permanent staff RN experience in acute care. Travelers must be separated for 1 year if previously a permanent staff member. Description: The unit has 24 beds. Patient types include AFIB/RVR, DKA, HTN, COPD, ARF, and post-heart catheterization. It also handles stroke overflow and needs TPA administration for CVA/TIA patients. Candidates should have experience with titratable drips such as Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, and Levophed, or may request manager approval if lacking this experience. Experience with chest tube management, tracheostomies, peritoneal dialysis, ISTAT, and CSF drains is preferred. The traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance prior to arrival. Support on the unit includes a charge nurse who may have patient assignments, and an in-house phlebotomy team. An IV/VAT team is available from 7 AM to 3 PM, and a hospitalist is available in-house. Occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy services are also available. Centralized telemetry monitoring is conducted on the unit. The EMR used is Meditech Expanse, with Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis for medication dispensing. Float opportunities may include stroke and med-surg units with different patient ratios. Weekend rotations are required every other weekend. Schedulers will work four days one week and three days the next week, following a mandatory shift pattern. Time-off requests should not exceed 7 days and can only be made for one weekend per 13-week contract. The traveler will be expected to work during two to three holidays during the contract. Scrub color required is pewter, with t-shirts in gray, white, or black. All attire must include a designated monogram. Badges must be worn in full view at all times.
