SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Supervises all medical services of the Medication Assisted Treatment program. Provides initial physical examination. Works closely with the Nursing staff in managing the MAT program. Work with the haumana primary care physician for continued medical services. Maintain a tight inventory control. Maintain up to date Federal and State regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
· Clear oral communication and writing skills.
· Ability to communicate well with diverse ethnic and cultural population.
· Scope of practice is essentially the accepted practice of addiction medicine, and makes appropriate referral to HM PCP or specialist, as appropriate .
· Knowledge of Federal Methadone Regulations, confidentiality regulations of alcohol and drug abuse for patient treatment and record keeping.
· Knowledge of chemical dependency, its etiology, epidemiology, and socio-cultural, and prevention.
· Knowledge of neurological assessment.
· Skills in organization and supervision, displaying the ability to coordinate and direct subordinates.
· Knowledge and ability to determine opiate addiction and appropriate treatment.
· Knowledge of opiate addiction treatment and risk/benefits of methadone and buprenorphine treatment, pregnancy, liver disease, hepatitis, HIV, and other medical conditions which may impact treatment with medication.
· Maintains and ensures inventory control policies and procedures and practices.
· Performs bi-annual inventories on a timely basis.
· Communicate clearly and cooperate with the staff.
· Ensure that evidence of current physiologic dependence, length of history of addiction, or exceptions to criteria for admission are met and documented in na haumana record.
· Performs initial comprehensive physical exam within 14 days of admission to treatment.
· Conduct medical assessment as needed.
· Approves orders for initial dose, dose changes, split dosing, and physician standing orders.
· Provides verbal orders for on-call requests and signs orders within 72 hours.
· Ensure appropriate laboratory studies and drug tests have been performed and reviewed. The lab tests do not need to preclude the initial dose.
· Signing or countersigning all medical orders as required by Federal or State Law.
· Ensure justification for take-homes are recorded in the haumana chart for reducing or increasing the frequency of clinic visits for observed drug ingestion, providing additional take-home medication under exceptional circumstances with permission under Federal Regulations or by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, Division of Pharmacologic Therapies, Drug Enforcement Administration and State Narcotics Enforcement Division as appropriate.
· Provide emergency medical care as appropriate if on site until EMS arrives.
· Document diagnoses, and work performed in the haumana chart.
· Maintain up to date documentation of all haumana office visits.
· Completes training as required to upkeep license and comply with Agency assigned trainings.
· Serves as a role model for clinic.
· Provides honest feedback to supervisee that is positive, constructive, and corrective.
· Maintains appropriate boundaries within the supervisory relationship that promotes a safe and trusting professional relationship.
· Recognizes interpersonal conflicts and supervisory impasses, accepts responsibility, and actively participates and addresses difficulties within the supervision.
· Creates and maintains supervisory practices that clarify expectations and goals, the evaluative criteria, and the effects of interpersonal style on the supervisee.
· Supervises Nurse Coordinator and conducts annual evaluations.
· Assists supervisees in understanding state and federal licensing requirements, laws, and statures.
· Understands and effectively communicates agency policies, procedures, and treatment protocols within the supervisory process.
· Ensures that supervisees are familiar with professional codes of ethics and client’s rights.
· Understands supervisee’s culture, lifestyle, beliefs, and any other key factors that may influence their job performance.
· Maintains an ongoing knowledge of current consensus and evidence-based best practices and communicates knowledge within supervision practices.
