Project Overview: the company is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Job Summary: The Mechanical Wet Commissioning and Startup (CSU) Engineer supports the safe planning and field execution of commissioning and startup activities for wet mechanical and hydronic utility systems serving a semiconductor manufacturing facility. Working for the EPC organization, the engineer coordinates across engineering, procurement, construction, quality, vendors, subcontractors, and customer operations to verify systems are complete, clean, tested, functionally proven, documented, and ready for turnover and operation. The role owns assigned systems from construction completion through commissioning, startup, performance verification, deficiency resolution, and final handover. Compliance: Ensure all company processes and procedures, regulatory requirements, and environmental safety standards are adhered to during the execution of work. #LI-AA1 Major Responsibilities: Commissioning Planning and System Ownership Develop and maintain system-specific commissioning plans, procedures, check sheets, test forms, and turnover requirements for assigned systems. Establish system boundaries, system turnover sequence, commissioning logic, temporary utility needs, test prerequisites, and acceptance criteria in alignment with the project schedule. Review P&IDs, process flow diagrams, plans, specifications, equipment data sheets, and vendor submittals for commissioning readiness. Participate in constructability, design, hazard, and operational readiness reviews. Identify commissioning risks, constraints, vendor support, consumables, test equipment, and temporary systems early enough to maintain the CSU schedule. Construction Completion and Turnover Coordinate construction-to-commissioning turnover for assigned systems and confirm turnover packages are complete, accurate, and aligned with system boundaries. Perform field walkdowns to verify installation against approved drawings, specifications, and vendor requirements. Validate mechanical completion status, including equipment anchors, piping supports, valve installation, and flow direction. Review pressure and leak testing, flushing, cleaning, passivation, reinstatement, and preservation records before accepting systems. Develop, prioritize, track, and close punch-list items. Commissioning and Startup Execution Lead or support inspections, valve lineups, equipment rotation checks, initial fills, flushing, chemical treatment, balancing, and system energization. Coordinate startup and troubleshooting of pumps, heat exchangers, tanks, strainers, filters, water treatment packages, and associated valves and piping. Monitor system parameters during startup, compare results with approved acceptance criteria, document test data, and coordinate corrective actions for deficiencies. Plan and execute integrated testing with other disciplines. Major Responsibility (Cont.) Technical Coordination and Problem Resolution Interface with engineering to resolve field conditions, design discrepancies, nonconformances, RFI's, and commissioning-driven changes. Coordinate OEM and supplier representatives for installation verification, startup, testing, troubleshooting, and required documentation. Communicate system status, constraints, risks, and recovery actions in daily coordination meetings and commissioning planning sessions. Documentation, Quality, and Handover Maintain complete and accurate commissioning records in project-approved databases and digital turnover systems. Prepare and compile mechanical completion documentation, system turnover packages, test records, commissioning reports, and acceptance documentation. Confirm redlines, vendor records, spare parts information, and operations and maintenance documentation are captured for handover. Support customer walkdowns, system orientation, operational readiness, and final acceptance of assigned systems. Ensure open items are clearly documented with ownership, disposition, and completion criteria before system handover. Safety and Compliance Demonstrate visible safety leadership and stop work when conditions are unsafe or prerequisites are not satisfied. Plan and execute work in accordance with project ES&H, quality, regulatory, and permit requirements. Support lockout/tagout, hazardous energy control, line-breaking, chemical handling, confined space, and stored-energy controls applicable to assigned activities. Participate in job hazard analyses, pre-task planning, readiness reviews, and pre-startup safety reviews. Verify test boundaries, exclusion zones, communications, and restoration requirements before testing or startup. Education and Experience Requirements: Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in electrical engineering or related discipline and 2-5 years of relevant experience in mission critical facilities or 6-9 years of relevant work experience in mission critical facilities. Required Knowledge and Skills: Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, piping plans, equipment drawings, specifications, control narratives, vendor manuals, and system boundary drawings. Working knowledge of wet mechanical and hydronic systems, including pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, strainers, filters, valves, piping, water treatment equipment, and associated instrumentation. Understanding of mechanical completion, turnover, pre-commissioning, commissioning, troubleshooting, and system acceptance workflows. Working knowledge of pressure testing, leak testing, flushing, cleaning, water treatment, balancing, and equipment startup practices. Working knowledge of lockout/tagout and hazardous energy control, with the ability to recognize commissioning‑specific risks associated with pressure, temperature, rotating equipment, chemicals, and stored energy. Ability to evaluate field conditions, organize technical information, identify root causes, and coordinate practical corrective actions across disciplines. Ability to produce clear technical procedures, test records, status reports, and turnover documentation using project-approved digital systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with craft supervision, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, commissioning teams, and customer representatives. Ability to work in an active construction and commissioning environment, including field walkdowns, climbing stairs and ladders, and wearing required personal protective equipment. Availability to support shift work, off-hours testing, or schedule‑critical startup activities when required by the project. Preferred Knowledge and Skills Experience commissioning hydronic utility or water-based process support systems in a mission critical environment. Experience with building automation systems, distributed control systems, commissioning databases, digital turnover platforms, and electronic test documentation. Familiarity with integrated system testing and interfaces among mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls, HVAC, process utility, and life‑safety systems. Knowledge of water chemistry, system cleanliness, and chemical treatment requirements relevant to assigned systems.
