Job Summary
The Instructional Designer and Educational Technology Specialist partners with faculty and staff to enhance teaching and learning through effective instructional design, pedagogy, learning technologies, and emerging technologies. The position provides a hybrid of Learning Management System (LMS) support and strategic instructional design expertise, with particular emphasis on faculty development, course design, accessibility, Quality Matters standards, artificial intelligence (AI), and emerging educational technologies.
The position provides functional support and administration for the University's Canvas LMS and selected educational technology applications while helping faculty move beyond the technical use of technology to its intentional and effective application to teaching and learning. The successful candidate will bring strong knowledge of instructional design and the science of learning, current educational technology trends, and emerging technologies and will be able to translate those areas of expertise into practical support for faculty with varying levels of technological experience.
Position Emphasis
The position intentionally balances three complementary areas of responsibility:
- LMS and educational technology support – ensuring faculty, staff, and students have reliable functional support for Canvas and University-supported technologies.
- Instructional design and faculty development – partnering with faculty to strengthen course design, pedagogy, assessment, accessibility, and student engagement.
- Emerging technology and AI leadership – helping the University and its faculty understand, evaluate, and responsibly integrate rapidly evolving technologies into teaching and learning.

- Develop and maintain instructional resources, tutorials, documentation, and other materials that support effective use of the LMS and educational technologies.
Instructional Design and Faculty Consultation
- Partner with faculty to design and redesign effective, engaging, accessible, and student-centered courses and learning experiences.

- Monitor developments in AI and other emerging educational technologies and assess their potential instructional applications, limitations, risks, and benefits.
- Support faculty experimentation and innovation with emerging technologies through consultations, demonstrations, pilots, and professional learning.
- Evaluate educational technology tools for instructional effectiveness, accessibility, usability, integration, and alignment with institutional needs.
- Participate in professional conferences, workshops, seminars, communities of practice, and other learning opportunities to maintain current knowledge of instructional design, pedagogy, AI, and emerging educational technologies.
