Sr. Actuary/Actuary - Capital and ALM

Job Summary As Sr. Actuary/Actuary on the Capital Analytics and ALM team, you will be part of a highly effective team responsible for managing the ALM framework and statutory capital analytics and strategy at The Standard. You will work with senior actuaries and leaders across all actuarial teams as well as finance, investments, and accounting. We seek an actuary with a strategic mindset and a collaborative approach who can play both a support role and a driver of our core functions. Responsibilities Manage the ALM framework, including interest rate, liquidity, and credit risk. Develop and execute capital strategy, including quarterly review of RBC position, scenario analysis, and projection of capital position. Forecast short‑term investment income, manage liquidity risk, and forecast short‑term capital within the Financial Plan. Lead the hedging program for interest rate risk, including development of new strategies to support evolving business line needs. Provide thought leadership and support strategic initiatives by leading projects that improve ALM and capital‑related analytics, tools, and governance. Support business line product development and pricing needs, and help develop approaches to handle ALM, capital, and asset strategies. Skills and Background Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in mathematics, actuarial science, business, or a related field preferred. Certifications: ASA or FSA required depending on the level of the role. CFA or CERA (a plus). Experience: Minimum 4 years in a Corporate, Life, Disability, or Annuity actuarial team. Demonstrated senior individual contributor experience in ALM, Capital, finance, or investments (a plus). Hands‑on experience designing and applying ALM strategies to solve business line and enterprise problems (a plus). Prior experience with hedging programs and strategic asset allocation efforts (a plus). U.S. statutory capital experience in projections and scenario creation (a plus). Adaptability: Ability to take ambiguous tasks and align them to the working model of the team to ensure execution; monitors developments in actuarial techniques, standards, assumptions, legal and regulatory environments; reviews and recommends changes to company policy and practices accordingly.
