Step into an impactful role supporting students with visual impairments across multiple school sites in the New Orleans area. As an itinerant professional, you’ll collaborate closely with educators and staff to ensure students receive the right accommodations and instruction, enabling them to thrive academically and socially. The upcoming school year offers a rewarding opportunity to work 35 hours per week in a contract position spanning August 2026 through May 2027.

Desired Background & Credentials:

• Bachelor’s degree and active Louisiana DOE certification in visual impairment required.
• At least 3 years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education.
• Proven expertise in Braille instruction and assistive technology for visually impaired students.
• Strong communication skills to provide in-service training and act as an engaging, motivational presence within school communities.
• Analytical mindset, adept problem-solving abilities, and comfort working independently across multiple assignments.
• Familiarity with orientation and mobility training considered a plus.
• Ability to meet credentialing requirements, including drug screening and fingerprinting.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between assigned sites.

Your Day-to-Day:

• Deliver direct instruction to visually impaired students.
• Coordinate with general and special educators to prepare accessible materials and resources.
• Interpret and advocate for individualized student needs at all school locations.
• Organize and conduct professional development for school staff.
• Maintain communication with educational agencies and the Department of Education.
• Procure and manage specialized books and instructional materials.
• Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of IDEA.

Candidates should be comfortable with light physical activity (occasional walking, standing, and lifting) and be prepared to work in a variety of educational environments.
