Plant Superintendent/ Assistant Plant Manager

American Bath Group

1. Company Overview

American Bath Group is one of North America’s largest manufacturers of bathware products, serving residential, commercial, hospitality, and institutional markets through a broad portfolio of brands and manufacturing operations.

The South Boston facility plays an important role in the company’s operational footprint and is currently undergoing significant operational strengthening and organizational build-out to support continued growth, improved execution discipline, and scalable manufacturing performance.

This role sits directly inside that transformation effort.

2. The Opportunity

This is an opportunity for a hands-on manufacturing leader to step into a highly visible operational leadership role inside a growing production environment that is actively evolving its systems, leadership structure, and execution discipline.

The facility has reached a point where operational complexity and production growth now require additional frontline leadership capacity across both upper and lower operations. The organization is investing in stronger floor leadership, better operational cadence, improved accountability systems, and scalable production infrastructure.

The Plant Superintendent will serve as a true operational floor leader — someone who is highly engaged in day-to-day production activity, capable of driving execution through supervisors and frontline teams, and comfortable operating inside an environment where not every system is fully mature yet.

This is not a maintenance role or a desk-management role. It is a high-engagement operational leadership opportunity for someone who wants to help build operational consistency, strengthen accountability, and improve manufacturing execution in real time.

3. Success in Year One

Successful performance in the first year will be measured less by titles and more by operational impact.

The right leader will:

  • Establish a strong and visible leadership presence on the production floor
  • Improve execution accountability across supervisors and frontline operations
  • Strengthen production planning discipline and operational follow-through
  • Help implement and sustain lean operational processes and tier-management cadence
  • Improve responsiveness during operational disruptions
  • Reduce dependency on Plant Manager intervention for routine floor execution issues
  • Improve coordination across production, quality, shipping, receiving, mold shop, and maintenance functions
  • Contribute meaningfully to the continued operational stabilization and scaling of the facility

Success in this role will be highly visible across the operation.

4. The Mandate

The core mandate of this role is to strengthen frontline operational leadership capacity across the South Boston facility by improving execution discipline, floor leadership visibility, production coordination, and operational consistency.

The Superintendent will function as the operational “floor general” responsible for translating plant priorities into disciplined daily execution.

This role requires:

  • Strong production-floor presence
  • Tactical operational leadership
  • Cross-functional coordination
  • Supervisor development
  • Lean execution support
  • Real-time problem solving
  • Operational urgency
  • Accountability enforcement

The environment requires someone who can operate effectively in a fast-moving manufacturing operation that is continuing to evolve and improve.

5. Year One Critical Outcomes

Operational Leadership Stabilization

  • Establish dependable operational leadership coverage across assigned production areas
  • Improve day-to-day floor execution consistency
  • Increase supervisor ownership and accountability

Lean & Operational Discipline

  • Support implementation and sustainment of tier-management and lean operating cadence
  • Improve communication rhythm and visibility into operational constraints
  • Strengthen operational follow-through

Production Planning & Coordination

  • Improve production planning execution on the floor
  • Increase alignment between production schedules and operational execution
  • Improve coordination between departments during production shifts

Responsiveness & Execution

  • Improve reaction time to operational disruptions
  • Increase frontline leadership availability during production challenges
  • Reduce recurring execution breakdowns

Organizational Capability Building

  • Help strengthen operational leadership infrastructure for future growth
  • Support the ongoing development of supervisors and frontline operational teams
  • Contribute to a more disciplined and scalable manufacturing culture

6. Why This Role Is Hard

This role requires much more than maintaining existing operations.

The South Boston facility is continuing to build stronger operational systems, leadership consistency, and execution discipline while simultaneously supporting production growth. The Superintendent must be comfortable operating inside an environment where priorities evolve quickly, operational gaps still exist, and leadership presence matters every day.

The right candidate must be able to:

  • Lead from the floor, not from behind a desk
  • Handle difficult accountability conversations directly
  • Influence long-tenured teams constructively
  • Balance urgency with operational discipline
  • Improve execution without creating unnecessary friction
  • Operate effectively while systems and teams continue to mature

This role demands consistency, visibility, adaptability, and operational stamina.

7. Leadership Profile

The successful candidate will likely be:

  • A highly engaged manufacturing leader with strong floor presence
  • Comfortable leading supervisors and frontline production teams
  • Experienced in environments requiring operational improvement or organizational rebuilding
  • Action-oriented and execution-focused
  • Comfortable operating with urgency and accountability
  • Strong in production coordination and operational follow-through
  • Effective at building credibility with frontline teams through visibility and consistency

This individual should enjoy being deeply involved in day-to-day manufacturing operations and helping teams improve operational performance in real time.

8. Experience Requirements

Required Experience

  • Manufacturing leadership experience with direct operational ownership
  • Experience leading frontline production operations
  • Experience managing supervisors or equivalent frontline leadership roles
  • Demonstrated ability to improve execution accountability
  • Experience operating inside manufacturing environments undergoing operational improvement or change
  • Strong communication and conflict-management capability

Preferred Experience

  • Lean manufacturing exposure
  • Tier-management or operational cadence systems experience
  • Production planning experience
  • Multi-department manufacturing leadership exposure
  • Experience inside growing or evolving manufacturing operations
  • Exposure to operational transformation or turnaround environments

9. Why the Right Candidate Will Be Excited

This role offers the opportunity to make a visible operational impact inside a manufacturing operation that is actively improving and investing in stronger leadership infrastructure.

For the right builder-oriented manufacturing leader, this is an opportunity to:

  • Influence operational direction in a meaningful way
  • Help shape a growing production organization
  • Build stronger execution systems and leadership discipline
  • Develop broader operational leadership capability
  • Operate with high visibility and ownership
  • Position themselves for continued operational leadership growth

Leaders who enjoy solving operational problems, improving execution, and building stronger manufacturing systems will find significant opportunity here.

10. Why This Role Matters

The South Boston operation is at an important stage in its evolution.

Additional frontline operational leadership is critical to improving execution consistency, scaling production effectively, strengthening accountability systems, and reducing leadership bandwidth strain across the plant.

This role directly impacts:

  • Operational stability
  • Production execution
  • Leadership effectiveness
  • Supervisor development
  • Lean system adoption
  • Long-term scalability of the facility

The right Superintendent will help create the operational foundation required for the plant’s next stage of growth and performance improvement.
