About The Role The King County Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) has staffing needs for experienced and technically proficient Industrial Instrument/ HVAC Technician. The responsibilities of this classification include all related HVAC/R, building, and mechanical chiller systems. Performing a wide variety of highly skilled technical journey level duties to design, construct, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and modify computerized systems, electrical, electronics, pneumatics, and hydraulics related to the HVAC instrumentation and equipment. As an Industrial Instrument Technician, you will actively apply these principles in all aspects of your work. Learn more about our commitment at Job Duties What You Will Be Doing: Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain all plant Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Systems. Including all Water-Cooled Chillers, reciprocating and screw type compressors package units with different tonnage configurations. Install, troubleshoot and repair distributed and supervisory control systems (DCS/SCADA), programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and single loop controllers (SLC's); Apply electronic theory, digital electronics, and proportional integral derivative (PID) control strategies to implement program changes to DCS/SCADA and PLCs. Analyze industrial processes in troubleshooting and repair of process control instrumentation. Design new controls and implement modifications to existing control systems. Update technical and process documentation, Work with operations personnel, engineers, and suppliers to explain the function of processes and procedures needed for the operation of new equipment. Make recommendations on purchasing and inventory requirements for all HVAC and or Instrument related equipment and determine appropriate inventory of spare parts for HVAC and Instrumentation. Assist in inspection of instrumentation installed by contractors as well as witnessing and assessing loop commission testing. Review, modify and update drawings to conform with established plant standards. Make recommendations on purchasing spares and inventory requirements for all HVAC and or Instrument related equipment. Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills Qualifications You Bring: Ability to recover and reuse different types of refrigerants using HVAC/R testing and recovery equipment while following EPA guidelines. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of instrumentation and HVAC electronics (typically found in a four-year apprenticeship program, two years of college level training or an equivalent combination of education and work experience). Demonstrated work experience (three years) in a journey level industrial instrumentation, HVAC or related field such as electronics. Knowledge of the installation, configuration, and maintenance of analyzers/sensors, control system computers, single loop controllers, signal converters, distributive and supervisory control systems, detection equipment/sensors, fuses, including soldering and brazing techniques. Knowledge of Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) control loops including single loop controllers and configuration. The position requires the ability to work all shift schedules and required reporting to work during adverse and inclement weather conditions and be on a rotating standby call list after a 9-month probationary period. Incumbents perform field work at a wastewater treatment plant and associated off-site facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, work in Permit Required confined spaces, kneel, crawl, walk and climb using ladders, catwalks, and stairways, work indoor and outdoor, in open tanks and vaults, and around noxious odors and high noise levels. Physical Requirement Incumbents perform field work at a wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, use ladders. Required Licenses A valid, unencumbered Washington State Driver’s License. City of Seattle Refrigeration Journeyman Mechanics License*** either Class A or C or a refrigeration journeyman level license from another state that is acceptable to the City of Seattle and that is transferable and verified. Ability to obtain the license from City of Seattle within 9 months pending job offer. It Would be Great if You Also Bring: Allen Bradley PLC and Panel-view, programming experience Wastewater experience.
