Requisition ID: 180961 Job Level: Senior Level Home District/Group: Kiewit OGC Engineering Market: OGC Employment Type: Full Time Position Overview As a Lead Structural Engineer, you will be a part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing structural calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe. Location This position is based out of our Energy Corridor office and typically requires less than 25 percent travel. Opportunities for flexible work are available. Responsibilities Performs complex calculations and applies standards correctly without supervision. Takes lead when works with peers. Reviews the work of engineers and designers developing engineering and design documents as needed for the project. Analyzes structures using various structural engineering software programs for the design of buildings and building foundations, equipment platforms and foundations, pipe racks, and miscellaneous concrete and steel structures; prepares quantities, cost estimates, and other supporting documentation for projects. Prepares engineering drawings and calculations, including specifications relating to the discipline. Reviews, monitors and ensures compliance requirements are met for the design (e.g. standards, specifications and local codes and regulations). Possesses critical analytical skills and is adept at utilizing decision‑making tools with a high level of data analysis skills. Regularly performs reviews of vendor documents to ensure specifications and data sheet requirements are met. Leads mid to large‑size projects or proposals. Develops and leads others in ways of improving the design and lowering cost. Considers multiple solutions and makes good decisions based on good data analysis. Manages several different assignments simultaneously. Applies techniques/technologies to improve processes and business results. Utilizes industry and company standards to design and engineer effectively. Serves as a resource to less experienced engineers. Reviews application of standards for correct interpretations. Leads projects in how to interpret and apply codes and standards. Leads team to identify changes in the scope of work during mid to large‑size projects. Produces design changes as needed to stay within budget and schedule. Recognizes the importance of customer needs. Performs assigned work efficiently and effectively to maximize person productivity. Leads quality checks of the design and engineering of a mid to major‑size project to ensure accuracy. Establishes credibility in terms of technical competency and team‑leading ability. Prioritizes time to meet team commitments and individual work requirements. Contributes to the development of client proposals and project cost estimates. Qualifications 10‑18 years’ minimum relevant experience in refining and petrochemical industry, preferably with EPC experience. Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) required. Proficient knowledge of engineering software such as STAAD Pro and RISA Foundation (preferred). Self‑directs work with limited supervision. Provides guidance, leadership and training to less experienced engineers. Leads small team to complete tasks/designs on project. Works with project team as representative and coordinates work within discipline department. Adjusts to varying demands of work and performs well. Develops and presents work in well‑constructed written and verbal presentations. Clearly conveys messages and ideas, gains understanding. Communicates effectively with supervisor and members of immediate department. Works collaboratively across departments and involves others in solving problems. Initiates meetings within own team, other disciplines or internal customers for clarity on work. Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner. Works well with others to accomplish common goals and objectives. Serves as a technical resource and point of contact for external or internal customers.
