Job Title: Pathologist Assistant Profession: Laboratory Specialty: Pathology Technician Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum 2 years experience required License: Licensed as a Pathologist Assistant required Certifications: Additional practical and clinical training in Anatomic Pathology leading to certification as a Pathologist Assistant Must-Have: Excellent oral and written communication skills required Strong organizational skills required Computer experience desirable Description: The Pathologist Assistant is a specially trained allied health professional whose skills are focused primarily in anatomic pathology. The Pathologist Assistant performs specific designated tasks and duties under the direction and supervision of a licensed Pathologist. Responsibilities include accessioning, billing, and labeling specimen containers and requisitions accurately and efficiently. Completes daily assignments in an organized and efficient manner. Develops, coordinates, and provides team support to accomplish day-to-day activities and tasks. Participates in departmental meetings as appropriate. Uses voice recognition software and laboratory information systems to enter gross descriptions. Verifies billing charges and exhibits resourcefulness in finding alternatives to accomplish work tasks when appropriate. Describes, dictates, and dissects all categories of surgical specimens in accordance with departmental guidelines accurately and efficiently. Chooses appropriate samples for decalcification and submits adequately decalcified samples to Histology. Performs proper disposal of tissue and chemical waste in the gross room. Ensures high standards in the Department by performing routine work and quality control activities.
