This MRI Technologist position is based at a well-established medical campus in Birmingham, Alabama, providing the best of both worlds: a close-knit, community-focused hospital environment supported by the resources and reputation of a large, academic health system. The east campus serves patients from Birmingham and surrounding communities, offering comprehensive imaging and diagnostic services in a modern, patient-centered setting. As an MRI Technologist on the day shift, you will: Perform routine and specialized MRI procedures according to established protocols, including brain, spine, musculoskeletal, abdominal, pelvic, and vascular studies Conduct thorough screening for MRI safety, carefully assessing patients for contraindications such as implants or devices Position patients accurately and comfortably, using immobilization and communication techniques to ensure clear images and a positive patient experience Administer contrast agents as directed and in accordance with policies and safety guidelines Collaborate closely with radiologists and referring providers to clarify exam requests, adjust protocols when needed, and ensure timely, accurate imaging Monitor patients during procedures, recognizing and responding to changes in condition, and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized MRI environment Document exams in the EMR, RIS, and PACS, ensuring complete and accurate records that support efficient patient care and interpretation Participate in quality assurance activities and equipment checks to help maintain optimal imaging performance and safety Support departmental workflow by coordinating with scheduling, registration, and other imaging modalities, helping to minimize wait times and improve patient throughput Typical day shift schedules focus on daytime hours, with an emphasis on predictable, consistent hours that support work-life balance. MRI volume typically includes a mix of scheduled outpatients, inpatients, and add-on exams, with patient ratios structured to allow for safe, thorough screening, exam preparation, and image acquisition. You can expect a steady, manageable caseload that balances efficiency with a strong commitment to individualized patient care. The MRI department culture leans heavily toward collaboration and support.
