Physician (Psychiatrist)

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. United States citizenship. Non‑citizens may be appointed only when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree from a VA‑approved school. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a US state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification. (Approved residencies include ACGME‑accredited programs and others deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.) Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) eligible if enrolled in an ACGME/AOA accredited residency and fully licensed; PRPs are appointed on an intermittent or fee basis and are not independent practitioners. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Board certification or pending notification for resident students is preferred. Will participate in a pre‑employment physical examination or evaluation. Duties and Responsibilities Support the mission of caring for our nation’s Veterans at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center. Collaborate with psychiatrists to enhance behavioral‑health workflows, strengthen continuity of care, and reduce administrative burden. Provide tele‑psychiatry services, including high‑risk assessment and referral, intake/diagnostic assessments, comprehensive treatment planning using patient‑centered and recovery‑based models, evidence‑based individual, group, and family therapy, and case/care management services. Serve as staff tele‑psychiatrist in the Psychiatry Service of the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System and report directly to the Medical Director of Tele‑Psychiatry. Carry a tele‑psychiatry caseload and provide consultation to other mental‑health and non‑mental‑health clinical programs. Review reports, laboratory procedures, and consultations and ensure appropriate action is taken. Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; eligible for 3+ days telework per pay period and 2 days in person on station. Benefits and Compensation Competitive salary with annual performance bonus and regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: 50‑55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and up to 5 days paid absence for CME). Malpractice coverage: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided. Continuing medical education reimbursement up to $1,000 per year (full‑time and board‑certified physicians). No physician employment contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
