Cardiovascular and Thoracic Critical Care Unit (CTCCU ) Located in the new, state‑of‑the‑art North Carolina Surgical Hospital, CTCCU is part of the UNC Center for Heart and Vascular Care. This Beacon Award for Excellence–designated, 40‑bed unit specializes in the care of critically ill patients with cardiothoracic and vascular disease. The Clinical Nurse reports and is accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director and is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Education – Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self, attends education programs, uses patient education materials, and assesses readiness to learn of patient/family/caregivers. Evaluation of Care – Identifies expected patient outcomes, seeks guidance in revising plan of care, participates in interdisciplinary discussion, and communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation – Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, performs bedside point‑of‑care testing, follows organizational policies, prioritizes care, and consults resources for complex issues. Leadership – Develops professional growth goals, participates in unit goals and performance improvement, promotes cost‑effective care, gives feedback, and supports a safe, clean environment. Patient Assessment – Recognizes data from complex situations, synthesizes assessment data, anticipates discharge needs, and builds relationships with families. Planning – Collaborates with patient/family, uses multidisciplinary resources, addresses cultural issues, and prioritizes tasks for complex problems. Research – Reads relevant journals, brings ideas to staff for practice improvement. Education & Experience Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a Master’s degree in Nursing within seven years of employment. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Minimum one (1) year of nursing experience.
