Pediatric Medical Assistant - Back Office

Position Description:

Under the direct supervision of the Clinic Administrator and Supervisor, the Pediatrics Back Office- Medical Assistant is responsible for providing efficient and compassionate patient care within our medical facility. Working closely with healthcare professionals, this position will assist with clinical tasks, patient intake, and maintaining accurate medical records. The Pediatrics Back Office-Medical Assistant supports the provision of direct patient care within the regulatory scope of practice. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering high-quality healthcare services.

Principal Responsibilities:

1. Performs routine (noninvasive) patient care functions as prescribed by licensed healthcare personnel following established clinic policies and procedures within the defined scope of education, training, and responsibilities.
2. Assists healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.
3. Prepares examination rooms by ensuring cleanliness and stocking necessary supplies.
4. Ensuring all child vaccines are up to date in patient chart and CAIR national website before going in with the provider.
5. Ensure Snellen eye exams and audio exams are completed for children 3yrs during Well Child Exams.
6. Escorts patients to examination rooms and obtains vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints.
7. Administers immunizations and all medications per provider's order after a licensed health care professional verifies the correct medication and dosage,
8. Assists with patient education and provides information regarding medications, treatments, and follow-up care.
9. Ensures compliance with infection control protocols and maintains a safe and clean environment.
10. Collects and records patient data, including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, pulse oximeter, and peak flow measurement, according to established policies and procedures.
11. Performs lab tests, including finger sticks, after appropriate training and verification of competency.
12. Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control per policy and procedures.
13. Documents patient information, medical history, and treatment plans accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
14. Participates in assigned staff and other meetings, including quality improvement, case conferences, and in-service meetings.
15. Performs routine clerical functions as assigned
16. Maintains confidentiality at all times.
17. Participate in JWCH's customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis.
18. Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned

Requirements:

1. High School Diploma or GED
2. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant school with a current MA certificate
3. Verification of appropriate hours in approved Medical Assistant course to perform venipuncture
4. Current BLS certificate from the American Heart Association
5. Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting, preferably in pediatrics.
6. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and empathy.
7. Two years' experience in an ambulatory clinic preferred
8. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
9. Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
10. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
