Job Title: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse Location: Show Low, Arizona
Pay: $31.00-$47.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Schedule: Full-time day shift | One on-call shift per four-week schedule
Employment Type: Permanent, Direct-Hire Position
Sign-On Bonus: $10,000 total - $5,000 after 90 days and $5,000 after 12 months
Relocation Assistance: Up to $5,000 may be available, typically paid with the first paycheck. Relocation assistance requires a one-year commitment and must be repaid if employment ends before that commitment is completed.

Position Summary

A hospital in Show Low, Arizona, is seeking experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurses to provide comprehensive care throughout labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum, and couplet-care services.

Because an OB physician and neonatologist are not continuously in-house, this role requires strong assessment skills, fetal-monitoring expertise, and the ability to recognize and respond to obstetric emergencies until the provider arrives. The ideal candidate is confident caring for high-risk patients and can function independently in a smaller community hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care.
• Provide couplet care to postpartum patients and newborns when department census requires it.
• Interpret fetal-monitoring patterns and initiate appropriate interventions for fetal distress.
• Recognize and respond to obstetric emergencies until the physician arrives.
• Care for patients experiencing preeclampsia and other high-risk pregnancy complications.
• Assist with vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections.
• Prepare patients, equipment, supplies, and surgical areas for cesarean deliveries.
• Monitor maternal and fetal conditions and promptly communicate significant changes.
• Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and established protocols.
• Provide education and emotional support to patients and their families.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, scrub technicians, patient-care technicians, and other clinical staff.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Participate in emergency response, patient stabilization, and newborn resuscitation when required.
• Follow infection-control, medication-safety, fetal-monitoring, and patient-care standards.
• Float to other hospital departments, typically medical-surgical units, when operationally necessary.

Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license or eligibility for licensure in Arizona.
• At least three years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience.
• Cesarean-section experience.
• Experience caring for high-risk obstetric patients.
• Strong labor assessment and emergency-response skills.
• Proficiency in fetal monitoring and interventions for fetal distress.
• Ability to provide Labor and Delivery, postpartum, newborn, and couplet care.
• Current Basic Life Support certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification.
• Current intermediate or advanced fetal-monitoring certification.
• Availability for one on-call shift during each four-week schedule.
• Ability to work independently while awaiting the arrival of an OB provider.

Preferred Qualifications

• More than three years of recent Labor and Delivery experience.
• Experience working in a facility without continuous in-house OB physician coverage.
• Strong clinical background in obstetric emergencies.
• Experience caring for patients with preeclampsia and other complex maternal conditions.
• Experience functioning in both Labor and Delivery and couplet-care settings.
• Experience assisting with newborn stabilization and resuscitation.
• Flexibility to assist medical-surgical or other nursing departments when needed.

• Seven Labor and Delivery beds
• Two obstetric triage beds
• Ten postpartum beds
• Approximately one to three births per day
• Approximately 830 births annually
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
• Respiratory therapist available in-house 24/7
• Pharmacy available in-house 24/7
• Support staff include OB scrub technicians, patient-care technicians, and health unit secretaries
• Nurse manager may assist with direct patient care when needed
• OB physician and neonatologist are not continuously in-house
