About the Role
Responsible for installing and removing molds, setting up raw materials for molded parts, mechanical equipment repairs and maintenance, and assurance of the quality of the parts being. Performs all functions in a safe manner and within quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Set-up/start-up of compression molding equipment
- Observing gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure equipment is working properly
- Diagnosing equipment problems and making necessary mechanical repairs and adjustments to keep equipment in proper operating condition
- Performing molding machine maintenance and molding machine repair as required
- Maintaining the operating condition of industrial production, processing machinery, or equipment
- Repairing, cleaning, lubricating, or adjusting hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems to optimally maintain the equipment
- Documenting required repairs and maintenance tasks
- Ensuring all assigned equipment safety guarding is in place and areas of the machine are clean, neat, and organized
- Responsible for shut-down and lock-out of equipment, informing Supervisor or Production Lead if safety device is found to be defective
- Performing production tooling changes, which includes removing, installing, and setting up molds using established methods and parameters to meet specifications
- Reassembling equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repair
- Submitting setup samples to the Production Lead or Lead Mechanic who will evaluate the setup and, if approved, forward the sample to Quality Assurance for inspection and to obtain a license to produce parts
- Operating material movement equipment in a safe and efficient manner to prevent injury to self, others, and other equipment
- Operating molding equipment as needed
- Following all processes, policies, and procedures to account for materials, finished goods, and quality system requirements
- Examining parts for defects, such as excessive wear or breakage
- Cleaning work areas using basic cleaning materials
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems
- Ability to operate newly repaired machinery or equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs
- Ability to analyze failures, machine error messages, or information obtained from operators
- Ability to use equipment that requires hot work permits such as welders, grinders, and torches
- Self-motivated and capable of identifying and completing tasks with minimal direction
- Ability to determine causes of operating errors and implement effective solutions
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing of goods
- Ability to use judgement related to identifying potential safety hazards
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to communicate in verbal and written English
- Physical requirements include standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling
- Ability to quickly move hands, hands together with arms, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects
- Ability to focus on a single source of sound in the presence of other distracting sounds
- Requires eye/hand/foot coordination
- Requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Degree in Mechanical or Electro/Mechanical Technology or related field of study preferred
- Minimum of 1 year industrial experience required, molding or plastics field preferred
