CLINICAL STAFF NURSE

SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Clinical Staff Nurse is an integral part of the health care team. The Clinical Staff Nurse assists the health care team in a professional manner in the community health center setting. Responsibilities include administering quality nursing care, immunizations and health education to patients of all ages in accordance with established nursing standards, assisting in the lab and pharmacy as appropriate, and working with all health center personnel to ensure an efficient and safe environment of care. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES- Maintains clinical expertise and competency (to include age specific competency) as well as demonstrates thorough knowledge of procedures to deliver quality primary health care.
- Documents delivery of health care and nursing process in accordance with the Center's policies and procedures in a timely, accurate, and consistent manner.
- Educates the patient and family/significant others about diagnosis and the plan of care. Acts as a resource for facilitating communication when necessary.
- Coordinates the delivery of patient care provided by the health care team. Assists with case management needs as identified by providers.
- Interacts with health center personnel and assists providers to ensure optimal patient care and to obtain optimum patient flow and increased patient satisfaction.
- Identifies and responds promptly to changes in patient's condition and/or clinic environment.
- Coordinates and delegates the timely processing of patient referrals, prescribed medications, and other identified needs of the patient.
- Acts as a resource within the clinic to other clinical staff members in regards to patient care.
- Participates as a team member and promotes teamwork by assisting others with patient care and department activities.
- Maintains adequate inventory of medical forms, supplies, in-house medications, STD medications and immunizations and completes monthly inventory reports as required.
- Performs maintenance and controls on medical equipment and documents results.
- Administers all medications accurately using the five (5) rights of medication administration, documenting medications according to health center policy and procedures.
- Upon completion of laboratory skill assessment, performs all laboratory functions according to Provider orders consistent with CLIA standards.
- Clinical oversight under supervision of site specific Medical Assistants
- Assumes responsibility/accountability for delegating, directing, and supervising patient care activities of clinical support staff.
- Identifies and participates in Performance Improvement opportunities.
- Serves as a resource and positive, proactive leader for the department.
- Accepts responsibility for remaining current with nursing and health care trends and information that impact nursing practice.
- Participates in collaboration with the health care team in identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing patient and family needs to develop a plan of care.
- Participates in the evaluation of products, procedures, and patient care standards.
- Participates in the evaluation of health care at the Center and in monitoring health outcomes of patients.
- Assists in maintaining an efficient, safe, secure, orderly, and aseptic environment of care for all patients and employees.
- Is familiar with and abides by OSHA Standards, Hazardous Materials, Universal Precautions, use of personal protective equipment, Evacuation, Fire, Disaster, and Safety Plans.
- Coordinates and monitors performance evaluation metrics of clinical support staff.

- Accepts and uses supervision, direction and consultation to maximize available resources in the completion of work duties.
- All job responsibilities will be carried out under the direction of the organization's policies and procedures.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed to maintain and improve effective functioning of the department and to advance the mission of the organization.
- Registered Nurse degree from an accredited school of nursing
- Current unrestricted license from the Kansas Board of Nurse Examiners to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Kansas
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Professionals Certification
- Approval of credentials and privileges by the Center board
- Knowledge of basic principles of health promotion, prevention and motivation
- Knowledge of protocols in general and an ability to quickly gain specific knowledge of the Center's current operational protocols
- Knowledge of medical terminology and appropriate abbreviations
- Demonstrates knowledge of the Kansas Nursing Practice Act
- Ability to read and comprehend medical instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to document, with clarity, all information relevant to a patient's needs
- Ability to effectively present information in small group situations to patients, Center staff, and the general public
- Ability to prepare statistical and administrative reports
- Ability to work cooperatively with community agency personnel, insurance carriers to coordinate services for patients
- Ability to use a glucometer and interpret the results
- Ability to use office equipment including but not limited to computers, fax machines, telephones and copiers
- Ability to prioritize and allocate resources
- Develop rapport with patients and their families, community and other health care personnel.
- Exhibit a professional and respectful demeanor.
- Work successfully independently and within a team, shifting tasks, prioritize tasks, problem-solve daily, and complete work within deadline
- Demonstrate excellent customer service, helpfulness, and a positive attitude.
- Possess superior organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrate the ability to recognize, understand, and appreciate the value of cultural diversity and communicate medical information in plain language.
- Demonstrate social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patients and staff.
- Exhibit experience and working knowledge of local community resources
- Hold current drivers' license and reliable transportation.
- Travel to all parts of the facility and throughout the community.
- One (1) year of practice experience as an RN giving direct patient care
- Bilingual fluency in written and oral English/Spanish.

- Must have manual dexterity and experience to perform handwritten paper work, recordkeeping, and filing.
- Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking may be required.
- Frequent bending/stooping, squatting, reaching above the shoulders, twisting and turning, kneeling, and pushing/pulling may be required.
- Employment is contingent upon successful clearance from Criminal, Kansas and Missouri Child/Elder Abuse and Neglect, Sex Offender background investigations, TB testing, pre-employment drug testing, and verification of Hepatitis-B, and flu immunizations.
- Occasional evening and weekend availability are required.
