Diesel Mechanic Technician

Position Description Ryder is hiring an experienced Mid‑Level Diesel Technician in Columbus, Ohio. The role offers weekly pay, excellent benefits, and a technician career you can feel good about. Benefits Hourly Pay: $26.50 per hour Certification Bonus up to $700 ( $100 per new ASE certification obtained) Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 per quarter (four times per year) Sign‑On Bonus: $1250 at 30 days and $1250 at 90 days Schedule: Monday–Friday, weekends off Hours: Second shift, 3:00 pm–11:30 pm Medical, dental, vision after 30 days 80 hours PTO first year, starting day 1 Yearly merit pay increases 401(k) company match PPE, uniforms, and boot allowance Paid training Safety‑first workplace & state‑of‑the‑art equipment Competitive top‑tech earnings: $250–$50,000 per year U.S. military veterans – extra paid day off 15% company stock discount Up to $5,000 tech tuition repayment Up to 12 weeks paid maternity leave (subject to eligibility) Employee discounts on tools, vehicles, travel, tech, and more Requirements High school diploma or equivalent preferred Vocational or technical certification, post‑secondary degree or technical certifications preferred Basic tools required Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including: Routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work) required Two years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience preferred Valid commercial driver license (CDL) CLASS A preferred Must obtain CDL within six months after hire Pass a Ryder drug test Pass a DOT physical Pass a Ryder road test Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for last 3 years) Responsibilities Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties Perform standard vehicle maintenance and component inspections and repairs Conduct preventive maintenance Diagnose mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computer when applicable Identify root cause of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required Replace defective components as instructed Perform facility maintenance duties Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint once assigned a task Utilize key functions of shop management system and electronic documentation available Work in accordance with all federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT) Perform other support duties as required to support operations, including but not limited to service island support Additional Screening Positions may require employment and education verification, motor vehicle records check, road test, and/or background requirements of the customer.
