Environmental Acoustics Scientist

Overview FirstCarbon Solutions (FCS) is hiring an Environmental Noise Scientist (CG06) to perform environmental noise and vibration impact assessments that support CEQA and NEPA compliance. Core responsibilities include conducting field noise monitoring, preparing noise models using tools such as TNM and SoundPLAN, evaluating regulatory thresholds, and drafting high quality technical analyses. The position supports multiple project managers, contributes to environmental impact reports, and provides guidance on best practices for noise assessment and mitigation. This role will prepare technical documents that are clear, concise, well-written and legally supported. This is a mid-level, management opportunity in our Air and Noise team. The position primarily prepares analyses in support of CEQA and NEPA requirements. The Noise Analysis Manager will report to the Associate Director of Air & Noise. Education and Experience 5-7 years of experience in Environmental Services, air quality, greenhouse gas emission inventory quantification and modeling skills with CalEEMod Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or related field Experience preparing stand-alone noise technical studies in compliance with CEQA Duties and Responsibilities Conduct project research, data collection and analysis, report and proposal writing, and support business development efforts relating to noise and vibration impact analysis. Perform quantitative noise and vibration impact assessments in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal guidelines and requirements. Field work may include noise monitoring and other data collection to support preparation of technical reports and models. Support multiple project teams focused on the assessment of plans and projects in urban, suburban, and rural settings. Provide analysis for site development projects, specific or general plan implementation projects. Including the development of general plan or municipal code policies and ordinances. Coordinate effectively with multiple project managers, and to prioritize and complete high-quality work within specified deadlines and budgets. Strong work ethic, positive attitude and experience working in a team-oriented environment. Skills Proficient in Word and Excel. Proficient with noise models as well as with performing off-model calculations. Model experience preferred includes: FHWA Highway Traffic Noise Prediction Model (FHWA RD-77-108), FHWA Roadway Construction Model; FHWA Traffic Noise Model (TNM), SoundPLAN Other noise permitting or assessment/modeling experience highly desired (Including AERMOD, CalEEMod, ArcGIS and other software models.) Strong research, writing, mathematical/scientific, analytical, and verbal communication skills. Solid writing and attentive listening skills, contributing to complex environmental reports and participating in meetings Excellent oral and written communication skills Strong ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely to individuals and small groups. Self-motivation and resourcefulness in completing assigned tasks Experience with ArcGIS a plus Work Environment The position operates in a dynamic and collaborative work environment with in-office, home-office, and hybrid options. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and may involve field work and travel to project sites. Compliance with all applicable policies and guidelines must be followed. The employee will spend extended periods of time in front of a computer, may need to walk over varied terrain, and must be able to lift at least 10 lbs. and hike as needed.
