Swim Lesson Instructor

The Swim Lesson Instructor is responsible for performing swim lessons for various age groups. The Swim Lesson Instructor is responsible for performing the essential functions as outlined in this job description. The Swim Lesson Instructor is a part-time employee who may work no more than twenty-nine (29) hours per week. Work is performed in an alert state and must always be consistent. Work pace varies depending on the task required. The position of Swim Lesson Instructor may perform duties in the hard work level (lifting 100 lbs.) infrequently.

Qualifications

The candidate must be at least (16) sixteen years of age. Previous swimming experience is preferred. Must have a deep appreciation for swimming and must enjoy children of all ages.

Immediate Supervisor

The Swim Lesson Instructor will report directly to the Duis Center Manager. The Swim Lesson Instructor will be responsible for conducting a lesson to fit the needs of the children in his or her class.

Essential Functions

a) Sets up proper equipment for lessons. b) Prepares a mental or written lesson plan for the day. c) Will attend all lesson times delegated by the Duis Recreation Center Manager. d) Teaches the children appropriate skills to enhance their swimming needs. e) Attends training sessions to improve teaching skills. f) Responsible for supervision of the class on the pool deck and in the water. g) The Swim Lesson Instructor must follow all other Park District policies and procedures as provided in the policy manual, safety manuals, and provided for facilities and programs. h) Other duties as assigned by the Duis Center Manager.

Marginal Functions

1. Assists with maintenance and repairs at assigned facility. 2. Assists all employees of the Park District where and when needed.

Psychological Considerations

The Swim Lesson Instructor may feel stress from being held responsible for their assigned class members. The Swim Lesson Instructor must resolve differences and problems that arise with children and parents.

Environmental Considerations

Swim Lesson Instructor may be exposed to odors from cleaning supplies and pool chemicals. Swim Lesson Instructor's skin is exposed to chlorinated water. When instructing indoors those conditions include lighting and temperature.

Cognitive Considerations

The Swim Lesson Instructor must exhibit good problem-solving ability and good judgment. Must be able to supervise others and have good safety awareness.

Recommendations For Accommodations

1. Workers are allowed and encouraged to use mechanical or manual assists for lifting over fifty (50) lbs. as a guideline. Working in teams will also allow workers to have assistance with heavier equipment. 2. Other situations requiring accommodations would need to be analyzed more specifically.

Compensation

The starting wage for this position is $15.00/hour. Part-time employees with certain restrictions, are entitled to free use of District facilities during public hours.
