The Patient Collection Specialist plays a critical role in follow-up and resolution of patient receivables while providing excellent customer service.
This position requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience in medical billing and collections. Qualified candidates must possess strong competence in medical billing of all commercial/private payers, as well as, effective communication skills, organizational skills, and a patient-focused attitude.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Answer inbound calls from patients with billing inquiries.
- Communicate with patients to discuss their account status.
- Ensure patient demographics and insurance plans are current in EMR system.
- Receive and post customer debit/credit card payments via telephone and mail receipt to patients.
- Input comprehensive, clear notes into billing system describing all activities performed on outstanding claims and patient phone calls.
- Print and work patient balance reports with outreach to the patients for payment.
- Create payment plans for the patients.
- Responsible for submitting patient balances to our third-party collection company.
- Communicate to the clinics of patient balances for patients with an appointment and assist with payment plans.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required. Some college experience preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in medical billing and collections.
- Practice management or clearinghouse software on an EHR/EMR platform, such as EClinicalWorks (ECW) experience preferred.
- Must be competent in medical billing of all commercial/private payers including familiarity with filing deadlines, appeal deadlines, and other payer-specific policies.
Physical Requirements:
The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. The physical requirements of this position are medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently. The Patient Collection Specialist is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
