OverviewSony Pictures Entertainment is seeking a top-tier acquisitions executive to drive sourcing, evaluation, and deal execution for its Worldwide Acquisitions business. This role sits at the center of the global film marketplace, responsible for identifying and securing high-potential feature film opportunities ahead of the competition.The Vice President is expected to operate with urgency, conviction, and a clearly defined point of view—combining elevated creative taste with disciplined commercial judgment. Success in this role is defined by the consistent generation of new projects/films that fit SPE’s distribution capabilities, early access to premium talent and material, and the ability to make decisive calls in a fast-moving, competitive environment.Key ResponsibilitiesProactively originate and pursue acquisition, financing, and production opportunities across the global film landscapeBuild and leverage deep relationships with filmmakers, producers, agents, managers, and financiers to secure early access to projectsEvaluate scripts, packages, and completed films with strong judgment around audience, positioning, and commercial potentialRigorously assess key deal components—including attachments, budget, financing structures, and comparable performance—to determine strategic valueMaintain real-time awareness of market activity, including packaging trends, bidding dynamics, and competitive behaviorDevelop and sustain a high-quality pipeline of differentiated, high-conviction opportunities aligned with Sony Pictures’ slate strategyIdentify emerging filmmakers and creators across both traditional and digital ecosystems ahead of broader market recognitionSynthesize creative evaluation and market intelligence into clear, actionable recommendationsPresent opportunities and advocate positions directly with senior leadership, demonstrating sound judgment and convictionBusiness ImpactThis role is critical to executing Sony Pictures’ strategy of acquiring, financing, and producing elevated, moderately budgeted theatrical films. The Vice President will play a direct role in shaping the studio’s pipeline by securing projects that combine strong commercial potential with a distinct creative voice.Projects will span a range of genres and budget levels and be distributed across Sony Pictures’ labels, including Columbia Pictures, Screen Gems, TriStar Pictures, Stage 6 Films, Sony Pictures Classics, and global ancillary platforms. The mandate is to deliver a consistent flow of high-quality films that are both market-driven and culturally relevant.The environment is fast-paced, competitive, and performance-driven. Success is measured by the quality, conviction, and outcomes of the opportunities sourced and executed.Qualifications8+ years of experience in acquisitions, development, production, representation, or related entertainment or digital rolesDemonstrated ability to originate, champion, and close high-quality projects or talentStrong creative instincts combined with rigorous commercial judgmentDeep understanding of global film markets, audience behavior, and the competitive landscapeEstablished network across filmmakers, agents, managers, producers, and financiersExcellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholdersHighly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple high-priority opportunities simultaneouslySelf-directed, resourceful, and comfortable operating with autonomy in a dynamic environmentThe anticipated base salary for this position is $175,903 - $228,674. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits.
