Electrical Engineer Intern, Power Electronics

Internship Summary The Electrical Engineer Intern will perform duties in the development of AC and DC power conversion hardware and system‑level design during the product development cycle. The position is onsite in San Diego, CA, and is an around‑year internship with 20‑28 hours per school year and full‑time work during breaks. Key Responsibilities End‑of‑Life (EOL) Product Transition: Support marketing‑driven initiatives to replace legacy products with next‑generation Asterion DC platforms, including product evaluation, validation testing, and transition planning. New AC/DC Source Product Development: Collaborate with senior engineers on design and development of next‑generation programmable AC/DC sources, evaluating power electronics topologies, selecting components, and supporting prototype builds. ASPS New Product Development: Work with senior engineers on evaluation and troubleshooting of high‑switching power modules and support material selection and design enhancements to increase power capacity and reliability. Asterion DC Product Extension: Assist in developing enhanced Asterion DC features such as disconnect functionality and polarity switching, and perform evaluation, testing, documentation, and release activities. Requirements Junior or Senior year student studying Electrical Engineering. Knowledge of analog and digital electronics design, with hands‑on experience preferred. Proficiency in engineering design tools: simulation software, schematic capture, MS Excel/Word, and database applications. Experience with PWB layout software is desirable. Experience with PC‑based development tools and firmware (C, C++, Visual Basic) for microcontrollers, DSPs, and user interface development is desirable. Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Good organizational skills and ability to multitask and meet deadlines. Previous internship experience is desirable. Must be able to commit 20‑28 hours per week during the school year. What We Offer Intern pay range: $26.00–$30.00 per hour. Mentorship from experienced engineers.
