Laboratory Animal Care Technician

As a Laboratory Animal Care Technician, you will be responsible for the care, maintenance, and well-being of laboratory animals. This includes maintaining their environment, ensuring their health, and keeping comprehensive records of their productivity and growth. You will also prepare animals for shipment and administer medications or injections as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Care for animals, including feeding, cleaning, and breeding duties according to a strict schedule.
• Maintain the work area in an organized, aseptic, and safe condition.
• Follow protocols to ensure the health and welfare of the animals; perform routine welfare and environmental checks, and report any welfare concerns promptly.
• Conduct physical examinations and health checks, including sexing and weighing animals.
• Collaborate with veterinary care staff to ensure optimal animal welfare.
• Maintain detailed records of animal production, inventory, cleaning, and care.
• Administer injections or medications to animals as instructed.
• Prepare animals for shipment, ensuring selection, packaging, and accuracy.
• Review equipment integrity and report concerns or malfunctions.
• Adhere to strict biosecurity policies and disease prevention processes.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills:

• Experience in animal husbandry and handling.
• Background in animal care and veterinary science.
• Knowledge of quality control, biology, and zoology.
• Familiarity with laboratory environments and procedures.
• Competency in animal breeding, testing, and health assessment.
• Ability to operate autoclaves and perform sterilization procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months of relevant experience in large or small animal care, which may include experience in a veterinary setting, on a farm, or in research.
• Ability to have indirect and direct physical contact with multiple species of animals.
• Capability to perform tasks requiring movement for long periods, repetitive motions, and lifting items up to 40 pounds.
• Certifications such as LAT, ALAT, or LATG are advantageous.
• Experience in animal research is a plus.

Work Environment:

This role operates within a laboratory or animal care facility, involving regular exposure to animals, cleaning agents, and sanitation equipment. The position requires standing, lifting, and repetitive motions throughout the shift, with frequent use of carts, pallet trucks, and decontamination systems. Work occurs in cleanroom, office, and production-style areas where adherence to sterile entry procedures, safety protocols, and cleanliness standards is critical. Attire is consistent with a professional laboratory and sanitation environment, including the use of protective clothing and equipment as dictated by facility procedures. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 4 pm. Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greenfield, IN.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
