Emergency Department Technician - Full Time 36 Hours/Week - Rover

Job Summary Location: Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, 933 E Pierce St, Council Bluffs, IA Work Schedule: 36 hrs./wk.; shifts include 7a‑7p, 3p‑11p, 7p‑7a, 11a‑11p, rotating 3rd weekend 7a‑7p. Responsibilities Promote positive relations with patients, visitors, families, physicians, and co‑workers; greet, smile, make eye contact, and introduce yourself by name. Volunteer to help co‑workers and other employees; address patients and others by surname; respond quickly to needs. Demonstrate the 6‑step customer complaint management process. Act as receptionist: use courteous phone etiquette; handle incoming/outgoing information in person and by telephone; take reports from other departments and forward vital information to nurses; telephone STAT when an order is received. Assist with department equipment and environment cleaning; prepare rooms for the next patient. Assist with basic patient care and vital‑sign monitoring, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and pulse oximetry. Collect urine, stool, and sputum samples; perform EKGs; answer call lights; check on patients routinely for comfort and satisfaction. Assist nurses with admission and discharge, including patient transport to and from the unit. Obtain supplies and materials when required, including stocking linens and evening supplies; place orders or notify RN as needed. Assist with special projects, orientation, training of new personnel, and performance improvement initiatives. Perform phlebotomy if appropriately trained as a phlebotomy technician. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent with knowledge of medical terminology and office functions. Preferred: graduation from a nursing assistant, medical assistant, EMT program, or completion of 2years of a BSN program. Patient‑care experience such as vital signs, EKG performance, and assistance with activities and hygiene. Licenses/Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred at hire and required within 3 months; Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification preferred. Skills: Ability to promote positive relations, excellent oral and written communication, adaptability to constant interruptions, basic clerical skills (phone operations, filing, typing, use of office equipment, greeting the public). Physical Ability: Ability to lift up to 50lbs and perform the physical tasks described.
