Behavioral Technician

Location : Charlotte, NC Reports To : Program Manager / Shift Supervisor Classification : Non-Exempt — Full-Time and Part-Time positions available Schedule : 12-hour shifts on a 3-day rotating schedule (day and night shifts available), providing 24/7 residential coverage. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage is required. BEHAVIORAL TECHNICIAN Family Services of America (FSA) is hiring Behavioral Technicians to join the direct-care team at our new Emergency Youth Shelter in Charlotte, NC, serving youth ages 5-17 in a trauma-informed, temporary emergency placement setting. Behavioral Technicians provide round-the-clock supervision and support to residents, implement individualized behavior intervention plans under the guidance of the Qualified Professional (QP), and help maintain a safe, stable, and therapeutic environment. Each shift is led by a designated Shift Lead who reports to the Supervisor, and Behavioral Technicians work as part of a coordinated care team to ensure continuous, consistent coverage of the facility KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Provide direct supervision and care for residents throughout the shift, ensuring round-the-clock, structured coverage of the facility as part of a 3-day, 12-hour shift rotation. Execute and support individualized behavior intervention plans developed by the Qualified Professional and licensed clinicians, using positive reinforcement techniques and trauma-informed practices. Apply crisis de-escalation and behavioral intervention techniques when needed, and immediately document all incidents in accordance with facility and licensing requirements. Assist residents with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and life skills development, while maintaining consistent routines that promote stability. Support residents in developing effective communication, interpersonal, and self-regulation skills. Conduct regular checks of the physical environment to ensure the facility remains safe and secure; log all activities and immediately report safety concerns to the Shift Lead or Supervisor. Observe and assess residents across daily activities to identify behavioral patterns, triggers, and appropriate responses, sharing observations with the QP and clinical team. Document residents' behavior, responses, and overall progress accurately and in a timely manner, consistent with agency recordkeeping and database requirements. Establish and maintain professional boundaries with residents and families and adhere to all ethical standards and mandatory reporting requirements. Maintain strict confidentiality of resident, family, and staff information. Complete all required onboarding and ongoing training, including trauma-informed care, crisis intervention/de-escalation, incident reporting, workplace violence prevention, safety precautions, and cultural diversity training, within required timeframes. Comply with all applicable state licensing regulations (10A NCAC 70I), CARF accreditation standards, and agency policies and procedures.Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum of two years of experience in an individualized treatment facility, or as a Behavioral Support Technician or Behavioral Modification Technician in a school, residential, or training setting. Must successfully pass required background checks, drug screening, and reference checks, and meet all state licensure and County contract screening requirements prior to placement. Physical ability to work directly with children, including lifting, kneeling, standing for extended periods, and safely managing behaviors. Ability to work a 12-hour shift schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations as needed.
