This position offers a combination of 12 hour and 8 hour shifts with no nightshift requirement. Our Hospitalist team has access to surgical and medical specialists including general surgery, urology, cardiology, pulmonology, ENT and endocrinology as well as onsite and telemedicine support for the management of critical care and stroke patients. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provides diagnosis, treatment, consultation and follow up for patients seen on Northwestern Medical Centers Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care Units under the supervision of the Medical Director. \n
   \n
   • Completes timely History and Physical and documentation
   \n
   • Orders appropriate lab and diagnostic procedures and studies
   \n
   • Interprets and integrates data to deliver appropriate therapeutic goals
   \n
   • Utilizes referral services when appropriate
   \n
   • Provides education to patients on both acute and chronic care of condition.
   \n
   • Works in an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the medical staff, which allow for consultation, collaboration or referral

2. Implements medical care within their limits of privileges, including writing orders for medications, and prescribing out-patient medications according to Vermont Pharmacy Rules and Regulations.
\n
3. Effectively communicates with the patient and the family/support system about the treatment plan, resources and required follow up care.
\n
4. Utilizes the hospitals electronic health record by appropriately documenting all patient interactions.
\n
5. Maintains legible, accurate and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnosis, procedures, treatment outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with hospital polices and procedures and regulatory agencies

6. Provides direct and indirect medical supervision as needed to allow the Nurse Practitioner to carry out his/her duties as an Advanced Practice Provider.
\n
7. Actively participates in hospital committees and maintains both a collegial and independent relationship with members of the medical staff and Hospital employees.
\n
8. Demonstrates support of and assists with the execution of cost saving process improvement initiatives. Partners with other departments of the hospital to ensure efficient flow of patients.
