Finance Manager

Overview The Finance Manager oversees financial reporting and accounting for Special Olympics Ohio (SOOH) community-based programs, ensuring accurate, timely financial statements and compliance with organizational policies. This role manages core accounting functions including monthly close, reconciliations, audit support, 1099 preparation, and donation tracking. This is a growth-oriented role with a strong emphasis on process improvement and automation, particularly in the first year by streamlining transaction intake and coding. The position supports the CFO and CEO and is designed to evolve into broader finance leadership responsibilities over time. Manage Monthly Community-Based Program Financial Process Pull bank and credit card transactions and record, code, and classify all expenses and donations. Maintain organized documentation such as receipts, statements, supporting files. Perform account reconciliations and ensure balances tie to statements. Coordinate fund transfers and ensure proper cash management. Year One Focus: Improve and automate transaction intake and coding processes to reduce manual effort. Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close. Follow up with community-based coordinators to ensure complete and timely reporting. Cash Management & Controls Support CFO with banking needs. Monitor transactions and flag policy exceptions or questionable spending. Maintain strong internal controls and documentation standards. Audit & Compliance Support annual audit and Form 990 processes. Prepare required reports. Assist with 1099 preparation and compliance requirements. Budgeting & Forecasting Provide data and support for budget and forecast activities. Partner with finance team to meet department goals. Serve as a resource to coordinators of community-based programs for items such as training, support, system access. Assist leadership with financial information and analysis. Process Improvement Identify and implement efficiency improvements and automation opportunities. Strengthen scalability and consistency of local finance operations. Required Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in finance management Preferred Education and Qualifications 3-5 years of accounting experience (month-end close, reconciliations, reporting). Advanced Excel skills; experience with accounting systems required. Experience with automation, process improvement, or system implementation preferred. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and ability to work independently. Commitment to accuracy, documentation, and continuous improvement. Growth Path and Future Opportunities This role is designed to grow in scope over time. Initial focus is on automation and efficiency in local finance processes. As systems improve, the position will expand into higher-level financial oversight, process ownership, and leadership responsibilities, creating a pathway toward a controller-type role.
