Associate Veterinarian

This independently owned small animal hospital in Billings, Montana is seeking a full-time Associate Veterinarian to join its close-knit team. Currently led by a full-time owner veterinarian alongside a part-time veterinarian, the practice has built a loyal client base by prioritising long-term relationships and giving existing clients the time and attention they deserve. Demand is strong enough that the hospital is currently not accepting new clients, with plans to reopen availability as the veterinary team grows. The owner is passionate about mentorship and creating a respectful environment for every member of the team, making this an opportunity open to veterinarians at all experience levels, including new graduates. The practice is open Monday through Friday, with no weekend or holiday working. The full-time schedule consists of four shifts per week from 8:00am to 5:30pm, including a dedicated 30-minute lunch break. Appointments are typically scheduled for 30 to 45 minutes, allowing doctors to properly work through cases, communicate with owners and develop meaningful relationships with their clients rather than working through an excessively compressed appointment schedule. Role Description and Responsibilities As an Associate Veterinarian, you'll provide comprehensive general practice care for canine and feline patients across wellness and preventative medicine, vaccinations, diagnostics, dentistry, geriatric and hospice care, surgery, spays and neuters. The hospital has a particularly strong surgical caseload, providing excellent exposure for a veterinarian looking to develop their confidence and capabilities in surgery, with mentorship available from an experienced owner veterinarian who genuinely enjoys teaching and supporting other doctors. The part-time veterinarian also provides acupuncture, creating the opportunity to learn more about this area if it interests you, although there is absolutely no expectation to do so. The practice is equally open to an incoming veterinarian bringing additional clinical interests and potentially expanding the services available to its established clientele. The hospital is a Certified Cat Friendly Practice with four exam rooms, including dedicated canine and feline rooms alongside two mixed-use rooms, as well as a fully equipped surgical suite. Clinical equipment includes digital radiography, digital dental radiography, ultrasound and in-house laboratory capabilities, while the hospital operates with a fully paperless medical record system. Doctors typically work with approximately 1.5 support staff per veterinarian on shift, within a team culture built around collaboration and mutual respect. With an established client base, strong demand for additional veterinary capacity and an owner committed to mentorship, the opportunity provides scope for an incoming veterinarian to develop clinically while becoming an important part of the hospital's continued growth.
