Job Title Registered Nurse - Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Job Summary Join the dedicated team at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts, as a Registered Nurse in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This vital role involves providing critical care and close monitoring to patients recovering from various surgical procedures and anesthesia. The PACU RN is responsible for assessing patient stability, managing pain, and ensuring a safe transition from the operating room to the next phase of care. This is a 10-week contract assignment, offering an opportunity to contribute to a high-acuity environment while working a flexible 4x10-hour shift schedule. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting. Key Responsibilities Provide direct patient care to post-operative patients recovering from general, regional, and local anesthesia. Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, neurological status, pain levels, and surgical site evaluation. Monitor and manage airways, respiratory status, cardiovascular stability, and fluid balance. Administer medications, including analgesics, antiemetics, and other post-operative drugs, as prescribed. Manage pain effectively through pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Educate patients and families on post-operative care and discharge instructions. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient care and observations. Respond to emergent situations and initiate appropriate interventions. Required Qualifications Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Minimum of 1-2 years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) or Critical Care setting. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Certifications such as CPAN or CAPA. Skills & Competencies Proficiency in post-anesthesia assessment and intervention. Strong airway management and respiratory assessment skills. Competence in cardiac monitoring and EKG interpretation. Expertise in pain management techniques and medication administration. Ability to rapidly assess and respond to changes in patient condition. Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems. Shift Details Shift: 10-hour shifts, 4 days per week. Hours: 12:30 PM - 10:30 PM (22:30). Schedule: Flexible scheduling.
