The City of San Pablo is seeking two (2) team-oriented Maintenance Worker I/II employees to join its Maintenance Division. San Pablo has a long-standing reputation for providing superior customer service to residents, businesses, and visitors. The Maintenance Division provides a wide range of services related to the development, construction, inspection, improvement, operation, and maintenance of the City's infrastructure. This includes maintaining traffic signals, sidewalks, streetlights, medians, roadways, parks, and storm drain systems. The City is looking for dedicated individuals who take pride in public service and are committed to helping maintain and enhance the community's infrastructure and quality of life.
The incumbent of this position provides a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, signs, storm drains etc. and to provide technical support to an assigned supervisor. Maintenance Worker I/II operates motorized vehicles and equipment including pickup truck, utility truck, backhoe, asphalt spreader, patch truck, boom lift truck, crane truck, front end loader, common hand and power tools, chainsaws, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, phone, and a ditch witch. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment by cleaning and checking equipment and tools before and after use; maintain records related to vehicle and equipment maintenance and activity; refer defects or needed repairs to supervisor. An ideal candidate must have demonstrated expertise in equipment, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities. The incumbent is a leader who will work collaboratively to advance the planning, development and administration of services at the City's corporation yard. Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Maintenance Worker I: Some construction or maintenance experience is desirable and the equivalent to a high school diploma. Maintenance Worker II: Two (2) years of responsible experience similar to Maintenance Worker I with the City of San Pablo and the equivalent to a high school diploma. Maintenance Worker I: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license Maintenance Worker II: possession of, or ability to obtain within six months of appointment, a Class B California driver's license with air brake endorsements. Possession or ability to obtain within 12 months of appointment, and maintain a Qualified Applicator Certificate, category B and C, from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation as required by the position. - Repairs and patches streets by hand-sweeping surfaces, loading asphalt, raking and shoveling asphalt.
- Drives and operates a variety of City vehicles and equipment including asphalt spreader, patch truck and vibrating compaction equipment both hand operated and riding types.
- Repairs storm drains, catch basins, and storm drain lines.
- Operates heavy equipment on routine assignments or on a training basis, including backhoe, tractor, boom lift trucks, crane truck, and front end loaders.
- Demolishes, excavates, forms, pours and finishes concrete work such as curb, gutter, sidewalk repair, and replacement.
- Paint walks, curbs, intersections, line striping and legends using air actuated or mechanical sprayer.
- Performs graffiti abatement by applying paint and chemical solvents to remove graffiti from surfaces.
- Sets up traffic control devices such as cones, barricades, arrow boards and signs, in public right- of- ways to control traffic flow through construction work zones.
- Fabricates, installs, and replaces traffic regulating, directional, and warning signs.
- Inspects, repairs, and maintains overhead street lighting.
- Inspects, cleans, and repairs, storm drain catch basins, grates and storm drain lines on regular and emergency situations.
- Inspects, cleans, repairs, and maintains tools and equipment.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Operates a variety of City vehicles which may include a lift truck, asphalt patch truck, dump truck, pick-up trucks transporting materials, tools, and equipment.
- Operates and maintains mowing equipment, tractors, asphalt patching and compaction equipment, trenching equipment, and a variety of hand and power tools, and equipment in and around public landscaped areas.
- Waters, weeds, trims, seeds, renovates, and fertilizes turf, shrubs, trees, flower beds and landscaped areas.
- Repairs inspects, maintains, and replaces irrigation systems and components.
- Performs general grounds cleaning including trash and other waste materials.
- Maintains and prepares athletic fields by grooming infield surfaces and related areas such as dug outs and base paths.
- Cleans, inspects, maintains, and repairs restrooms, sinks, toilets, trash receptacles, play equipment and drinking fountains.
- Moves, and installs, play equipment, benches, and trash receptacles.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Operates a variety of City vehicles including lift truck, asphalt patch truck, dump and pick-up trucks.
