Job Type: PRN (as needed). CRHC is looking for a PRN Ultrasonographer to join our healthcare team. The schedule for this position will vary and is determined on an as‑needed basis. Primary Function Responsible for Advancing Exceptional Care by prioritizing safety and quality in every aspect of patient care. Qualifications Education and/or Experience Associate degree in Ultrasound or equivalent Certificates, Licensure, Registrations Current Diagnostic Medical Sonographer licensed in the State of Iowa American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or registry eligible Schedule The facility operates 24/7; however, work schedules may vary based on departmental needs to ensure the highest standard of patient care and operational efficiency. Flexibility will be expected. On‑call availability as needed. Weekend and holiday rotation as needed. Eligible for shift differentials where applicable. Position is classified as non‑exempt and eligible for overtime in accordance with labor laws. Perform a variety of sonography procedures utilizing ultrasound equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and follow established protocols as defined by the radiologist. Enter appropriate patient information and technical factors to image required anatomy. Perform examinations in a manner that optimizes the best visualization of any required anatomy. Identify each patient, review order and previous exam for comparison and appropriateness of orders. Communicate with patient and family, provide instructions and education to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety. Carry out requested sonographic procedures using the ultrasound equipment provided. Assess patient condition and assure patient safety through proper use of restraint/support devices, respecting patient ability and comfort. Review each examination for technical accuracy, correct labeling of images and anatomic orientation, and proper date and patient identification. Provide quality diagnostic images and accurate history to the radiologist and review findings with radiologist and/or ordering physician. Communicate pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure. Verify informed consent for and assist radiologist with interventional procedures utilizing aseptic technique, universal precautions, and transfer of specimens to lab. Assist in scheduling patients and procedures to coordinate inpatient, critical or emergency and outpatient schedule efficiently. Maintain records, computer/order/resulting/charging entries and filing to maintain patient records and patient confidentiality. Demonstrate exceptional patient communication skills. Assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure. Explain the test to the patient in a manner that lowers any anxiety. Introduce yourself to patient in a cheerful and pleasant manner, follow AIDET principle. Communicate with patient throughout exam to reduce any patient anxiety. Maintain supplies and cleanliness in the department. Maintain equipment and recommend service as needed. Carry out necessary quality control and quality assurance to ensure high performance standards are met. Provide ultrasound instruction for students, medical staff, and nursing for the general education of these customers. Assist in Radiology as needed when the ultrasound schedule permits. Enter patient data into electronic scheduling systems accurately so as to connect images to PACS. Schedule exams in coordination with available techs, mobile service and radiologists accordingly. Assume phone responsibilities, when necessary, with proper phone etiquette. Ensure patient exams in computer system are accurate to the exam completed. Maintain appropriate supply levels throughout the department by ordering, stocking, and checking for outdates. Thoroughly and accurately complete patient history and associated worksheets for each exam. Communicate and collaborate effectively with other health team members regarding patient condition and patient satisfaction needs. Identify and recognize abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition, established priorities, and take appropriate action. Appropriately report condition changes to medical provider. Administer treatments and procedures in a timely and safe manner according to physician orders and department policy. Demonstrate proficient technical/clinical skills and operational knowledge of equipment. Inform and involve Radiology Manager regarding patient care issues in a timely and appropriate manner. Utilize proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques and appropriate equipment to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self. Participate in CRHC’s Quality program, committees, performance and quality improvement initiatives, and activities which support the facility and department operations. Demonstrate a commitment to the practices of Quality Improvement (QI). Regularly attend Department huddles. Complete tasks as outlined on Department Huddle Board.
