JOB TITLE: Store Supervisor (Independently-Owned Retail & Salon Operations)

LOCATION: Montvale, NJ (In-Person)

JOB TYPE: Full-Time (Approx. 40 hours/week)

PAY RATE: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour (Plus Incentives)

SIGNING BONUS: One-time signing bonus of $1,500, payable within 90 days of your start date (less applicable federal, state, and local withholdings).

ABOUT THE ROLE

I am seeking a high-energy team/operationally-minded Store Supervisor to command the day-to-day operations alongside a hands-on owner/operator who will be alongside of you. The store/spa, which just opened on April 30, 2026 is within a Montvale-based shopping center currently approved for a new Trader Joe's, Shake Shack, Cava, and HoneyGrow.

This role serves as the engine of the store but NOT with an absentee-owner. That said, a pet grooming boutique store and salon is vibrant. Often it's extremely relaxed. It can also be loud —with dogs (you need to love dogs!), buzzing blow-dryers, tight turnaround windows, and passionate pet parents. I need a steady, hands-on leader who stays calm under pressure, proactively untangles operational bottlenecks, manage schedules, and help balance the rhythm of a high-volume salon with top-tier retail customer service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

OPERATIONAL COMMAND & DAILY WORKFLOW

- Serve as the primary floor leader, who is responsible for employees (including those opening and closing the store) while driving strict adherence to daily operational checklists, safety guidelines, and store cleanliness standards.

- Monitor real-time operational flow between the retail floor and grooming salon, troubleshooting delays, managing queue bottlenecks, and keeping daily operations running on time.

- Oversee inventory reception, stock auditing, purchase ordering, and shrink management to maintain accurate stock levels.

- Execute daily register drawer reconciliations, tip reconciliations, store bank deposits, and change runs with strict accounting precision.

TEAM MANAGEMENT, COACHING & ACCOUNTABILITY

- Directly supervise, mentor, and rally store associates, groomers, bathers, and front-desk staff to exceed performance, service, and productivity expectations.

- Conduct shift huddles, delegate operational tasks, and hold staff accountable for work quality, salon sanitization, and customer engagement.

- Partner with store owner to train and onboard new hires, conduct standard operational reviews, and cultivate a culture of accountability and mutual respect.

SALON ENVIRONMENT & ESCALATION HANDLING

- Maintain composure and steady leadership in a high-stimulus salon environment (handling animal noise, energetic pets, and tight dog grooming turnover times).

- Act as the point of escalation for complex customer inquiries, service delays, or grooming feedback, resolving issues quickly, diplomatically, and professionally.

- Coordinate closely with groomers, bathers, and front-desk staff to verify intake instructions, manage check-in/check-out timing, and uphold strict pet safety standards.

SCHEDULING, TIMEKEEPING & COMPLIANCE

- Build, publish, and maintain weekly schedules to balance labor targets against peak salon booking hours and retail traffic trends.

- Swiftly manage call-outs, shift trades, and coverage gaps to ensure the store and salon remain fully operational.

- Review digital timecards daily, correct missed punches, track break compliance, and audit tip and commission distributions for bi-weekly payroll submission.

- Enforce compliance with state and federal labor laws, including rest/meal break mandates, minor employee regulations, and workplace safety protocols.

MERCHANDISING & SALON STANDARDS

- Execute visual merchandising plans and promotional/seasonal display themes to drive retail sales.

- Maintain strict FIFO (First In, First Out) product rotation across pet foods and fresh gourmet baked treats.

- Ensure the entire store—from the customer-facing retail aisles to the rear bathing and grooming areas—is clean and sanitized properly.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of direct supervisory, shift lead, or assistant store management experience in a fast-paced retail, hospitality, veterinary, or pet-care environment.

- Salon Comfort & Composure: Must be completely comfortable working around live animals of all sizes and temperaments, unfazed by salon noise (barking, equipment), and capable of staying calm, organized, and focused during busy, chaotic rushes.

- Operational & Team Management: Demonstrated ability to manage shift personnel, enforce operating procedures, delegate tasks effectively, and address performance or behavioral issues directly and constructively.

- Employee Relations & Labor Rules: Practical knowledge of workplace conflict resolution, employee relations, and foundational wage/hour and break compliance laws.

- Systems Proficiency: Hands-on experience with POS systems, digital scheduling and timekeeping software (e.g., Homebase, Paychex, ADP, or Gusto), and inventory management platforms.

- De-escalation Skills: Strong interpersonal diplomacy with proven success turning tense customer or staff situations into positive outcomes.

- Physical & Schedule Demands: Ability to lift up to 40-50 lbs (pet food bags, equipment, crate lifting), stand on your feet for extended periods, and work a full-time retail schedule including weekends, select peak evenings, and busy holidays.

- Training: Willingness to complete designated brand and operational training modules (including potential paid corporate training).
