Senior Medical Director – Oak Street Health

The Senior Medical Director leads provider teams in the local market, partners with the Regional Vice President to achieve operational and clinical excellence, and serves as a key thought partner in shaping the clinical model. The candidate practices primary care 2 1/2 days per week alongside provider colleagues.

Core Responsibilities

• Medical Director Management & Coaching – lead and mentor medical directors, supervise and support their teams, provide constructive feedback to improve performance, guide the use of data‑driven tools, review quality dashboards, and implement initiatives to enhance quality outcomes.
• Physician Leadership Development – develop a pipeline of clinical leaders skilled in problem solving, communication, conflict resolution, value‑based care delivery, and collaboration with clinicians and executives.
• Support Organizational Strategy – contribute to organization‑wide projects, serve on committees for clinical programs (medical management, care management, quality improvement, utilization management, network & health plan management, documentation/risk adjustment, clinical compliance and policy development), and represent Oak Street to external partners.
• Population Health – supervise interdisciplinary Complex Care Teams for highest‑need patients, supervise Transitions Nurses coordinating post‑discharge care, partner with population health and quality teams, and participate in documentation and coding activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• MD/D.O./DNP with a license in good standing, board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine; DNPs must also be certified in a primary‑care domain.
• 10+ years of professional experience; at least 5 years in outpatient practice and 3 years in a physician‑management or medical‑director role overseeing 20+ providers.
• Extensive experience in clinical leadership, coaching physicians, and managing medical groups.
• Experience with managed care and/or value‑based practices, payer‑provider collaboration, and a metrics‑driven approach to cost, quality, and satisfaction data.
• Strong leadership, problem‑solving, and communication skills; ability to remain calm under stress and handle ambiguity.
• Commitment to patient care and ability to work in a fast‑growing, innovative environment.

Employment Type & Compensation

Full time; anticipated weekly hours 40. Pay range: $184,112.00 – $396,550.00 (base salary varies with experience, education, geography and other factors).
