Position Summary:The University of Minnesota Department of Medicine is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Division Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Medicine. The ideal candidate will have a distinguished record of clinical excellence, research productivity, educational engagement and administrative leadership.The division is seeking a leader who can foster new collaborations, expand its research enterprise, and reimagine academic programs and clinical care delivery. The successful candidate will have demonstrated academic leadership across clinical care, education, and research missions, along with experience in faculty development, mentoring, sustaining independent research funding, and maintaining a productive scholarly portfolio marked by peer-reviewed publications. Unique Opportunities: Collaborate with world-class researchers in the University of Minnesota’s Center for Immunology, an interdisciplinary research program devoted to advancing the field of immunology. Collaborate with world-class researchers in the University of Minnesota Institute on Infectious Diseases who seek to identify and respond to emerging and contemporary infectious diseases for outbreak and disease mitigation and control, and to train the next generation of pandemic and epidemic response experts. Provide leadership for new and innovative clinical and academic programsDivision of Infectious Diseases and International Medicine:The Division is comprised of over 50 faculty, including affiliated sites. Many faculty have multifaceted roles as educators, clinicians, and research professionals both locally and internationally. Our division takes great pride in achieving excellence and we continually strive to set the bar in the areas of education, research and patient care.Our Infectious Diseases specialists deliver comprehensive and compassionate care focused on improving patient outcomes. We provide high level expertise, in-depth consultation, and cross-specialty collaboration.The division currently holds fifteen active NIH grants totaling $7,578,347. The Infectious Diseases Division prides itself on contributing towards a strong collaborative research community. We are committed to the continued advancement of innovative research to address infectious diseases from bench to bedside.The division supports two infectious disease fellowship training programs: an ACGME-accredited Infectious Disease Fellowship Program; and a one-year Transplant Infectious Disease Fellowship program. Our faculty are dedicated to educating early-career infectious disease specialists to build a strong foundation both clinically and in the research arena.Core Responsibilities:Leadership and Administration:Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Medicine aligning with the overall mission and goals of the Department of Medicine and the InstitutionOversee the clinical, research, and educational activities of the DivisionDevelop and enact a plan for divisional expansion and program growthManage the Division's budget, resources, and personnelRecruit, mentor, and retain faculty and staffFoster a collaborative and supportive environment that promotes excellence and innovationRepresent the Division within the Department of Medicine, the Institution, and the broader medical communityDevelop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective operationsFoster and sustain a divisional environment that is welcoming, diverse, and inclusive, promoting and supporting individual faculty goals using a holistic approachClinical Care:Maintain a clinical practice in infectious diseases providing expert consultation and care to patientsWork with the Service Line on clinical operations; ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care within the DivisionPromote the development and implementation of best practices in infectious disease careResearch:Promote and support research activities within the Division, including basic translational and clinical researchMaintain an active research program and provide support for faculty research and scholarly activities tailored to individual interestsFoster collaboration with other departments and institutions to advance infectious diseases researchEducation:Provide support and assistance to the Infectious Disease Fellowship Program in developing and implementing innovative educational programs to enhance the knowledge and skills of traineesPromote faculty development in teaching and mentorshipQuality Improvement:Promote a culture of continuous improvement, patient safety, and innovationEnsure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirementsAppointment Terms & Renewal:Term: Initial appointment is intended for 5 yearsReview Process: Continued appointment is contingent upon an annual performance review conducted by the Department HeadQualifications:Medical Degree (e.g., MD, DO)Board certification in Infectious DiseasesMeets The University of Minnesota Medical School criteria for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor of MedicineDemonstrated leadership and administrative experience.A strong record of clinical excellence and international reputation for outstanding scholarly activityProven ability to secure extramural funding for researchExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsA commitment to inclusive excellenceEligibility for medical licensure in MinnesotaPreferred Qualifications:History of successful mentorship of junior faculty with varied career goalsCompensation Pay Range:This role is dually employed by the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians. Salary at the University of Minnesota is dependent upon academic effort of the person hired and begins at $55,000.Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through University of Minnesota Physicians. Total combined salary is anticipated to be in the range of$325,000 - $350,000 and is based on AAMC salary benchmarks.
