Clinical Trials Technician

The Flint Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University is seeking applications to fill the position of Clinical Trials Technician. This position will manage the patient intake process and obtain a detailed client history, perform vital and sample collections, and assist clinicians in physical examinations. They will be responsible for administering treatments to trials patients such as chemotherapy, study drugs, and other medications and administer and monitor sedation and anesthesia for patients. They will help with data collection including lesion measurements and photo documentation, etc. They will also serve as the client liaison regarding concerns about patients and questions about the clinical trials logistics or scheduling and client eligibility. They will also assist in the clinical trials lab with protocol development, clinical trial preparation, and close out including sample management, shipping, study document development, etc. Participate in required clinical trials-related training/continuing education. This position is fully in-person.

Essential Duties:

Patient Care:

• Providing technical and nursing support to animal cancer patients, clinicians, students, and clients associated with the clinical trials service to include: intake of patients on clinical trials for appointments and obtaining detailed history from owners, obtaining vital signs and weight on canine and feline patients, sample collection (blood, urine, feces, tumor/lymph node aspirates) from trials patients, and assisting Dr. in physical examinations and data collection including lesion measurements and photo documentation.
• Administering sedation and anesthesia for procedures such as tumor biopsies, bone marrow aspirates, etc. and monitoring patients during these procedures.
• Administering treatments to trials patients including chemotherapy, study drugs, and other medications by various methods (oral, intravenous, subcutaneous, intramuscular).

Client Interactions:

• Serve as the primary client liaison by responding to questions and concerns regarding patient care and communicating clinical concerns to veterinarians and clinicians as appropriate.
• Obtain informed consent from pet owners and conduct client follow-up to gather information for case follow up.
• Fielding consultation inquiries from the veterinary community and public concerning clinical trial eligibility.

Administration:

• Assisting Drs., clinical trials coordinator, and other technicians as needed with duties such as protocol development, sample processing, clinical trial preparation and close out including sample management, shipping, case report form development, etc.
• Participate in required clinical trials-related training/continuing education.

Conditions of Employment:

• Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires).
• The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date. The department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS degree
OR
• Associate's Degree
AND
• Certified veterinary technician with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Must be comfortable with the administration and monitoring of sedation and anesthesia in dogs and cats.
• Ability to work with others in a team atmosphere.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in veterinary oncology/chemotherapy administration.
• Previous experience with veterinary and/or human clinical trials.
• Familiarity with benchtop/lab procedures.

Salary Range

$60,000-$70,000
