About the Position:

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

This will be filled on a permanent basis.

Duties

Help

  • Conduct standardized medical orientation briefings to applicants.
  • Administer comprehensive medical screenings (audiometry, vision tests, vital signs) to evaluate incoming military applicants.
  • Maintain applicants' medical records during the examination process.
  • Assisted applicants in accurately completing required physical examination paperwork and medical questionnaires.
  • Perform phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samples.
  • Dispatched clinical specimens to testing laboratories in adherence to safety and handling regulations.

  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. (Before 0600 or after 1800 hours)
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience for GS-06 : One year of experience which includes: Assisting with physical examinations (i.e. optical, audiometric tests, electrocardiogram, and/or urine collection/processing) of applicants/patients; Utilizing phlebotomy procedures to safely obtain blood samples; Operating medical equipment (i.e. audiometers, stereoscopic vision testers, and/or centrifuges) for various types of medical examinations/procedures; Documenting patient medical information to maintain accurate medical records

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:

Education Substitution for GS-06: Successful completion of at least one-half year (9 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field directly related to the work of the position to be filled, such as: Medical Technology/Technician, Medical Assistant, Nursing, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, or a related field of study. ( NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification.)

OR

Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-06 : A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (You must provide a copy of your transcripts.)

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
