Restaurant General Manager

Location: South Bay Area, California
Job Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $85,000–$90,000 annual base salary + performance-based bonus opportunity of up to $25,000 annually

The Opportunity

A well-established, high-volume restaurant is seeking an experienced Restaurant General Manager to lead its daily operation and drive continued success.

This is a leadership position for someone who understands that exceptional restaurants are built through strong teams, outstanding hospitality, disciplined operations, and attention to the numbers.

The General Manager will have broad responsibility for the restaurant's performance, including team leadership, guest satisfaction, service standards, staffing, financial performance, and operational execution.

We are looking for someone who is confident taking charge, comfortable making decisions, and motivated by the opportunity to build a strong team and improve results.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the Team

• Provide clear direction and leadership to the restaurant management and service teams.
• Build a culture of professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and respect.
• Recruit, train, develop, and retain talented employees.
• Establish clear performance expectations and follow through consistently.
• Coach employees and managers to improve their skills and performance.
• Recognize strong performance and create opportunities for team members to grow.
• Address employee concerns and performance issues promptly, fairly, and professionally.
• Develop staffing plans and schedules that align with business volume and labor objectives.

Run the Restaurant

• Take charge of daily restaurant operations and ensure consistent execution.
• Maintain a strong presence on the floor and lead by example.
• Ensure high standards for food quality, service, cleanliness, and hospitality.
• Keep communication strong between front-of-house and culinary teams.
• Identify operational issues and resolve them quickly and effectively.
• Step in wherever needed during busy periods to support the team and maintain service standards.
• Oversee daily operating procedures and ensure they are consistently followed.
• Support special events, promotions, menu changes, and other business initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace standards.

Deliver an Exceptional Guest Experience

• Set the tone for a welcoming, professional, and memorable guest experience.
• Develop relationships with regular guests and encourage repeat business.
• Personally address guest concerns and service recovery situations with good judgment.
• Coach the team on hospitality and service excellence.
• Look for opportunities to improve the guest experience and strengthen customer loyalty.
• Understand the importance of both the details of service and the overall experience.

Manage Financial Performance

• Take an active role in the restaurant's financial performance and profitability.
• Monitor sales, labor, food and beverage costs, and other key performance indicators.
• Review financial results and identify trends, opportunities, and areas requiring attention.
• Build staffing plans that balance service requirements with labor goals.
• Monitor purchasing, inventory, and cost-control practices.
• Evaluate performance against sales goals, budgets, and historical results.
• Identify opportunities to increase revenue and improve margins.
• Use financial and operational information to make sound business decisions.
• Communicate goals clearly and motivate the team to achieve them.

Grow the Business

• Look for new opportunities to increase sales and attract guests.
• Participate in the development and execution of promotions, special events, and other sales initiatives.
• Encourage managers and staff to think proactively about the business.
• Evaluate new ideas based on revenue potential, cost, and operational impact.
• Help strengthen the restaurant's presence in the local market.
• Develop relationships that can lead to new business and repeat customers.

Administration & Compliance

• Ensure company policies and procedures are followed consistently.
• Maintain accurate operational and administrative records.
• Ensure compliance with applicable employment, wage and hour, health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor timekeeping and employee practices for compliance.
• Stay current with relevant regulations and restaurant industry best practices.
• Address compliance concerns promptly and appropriately.
• Complete administrative responsibilities accurately and on time.

• Several years of restaurant management experience, with demonstrated success in a General Manager or senior management role.

Compensation
