Grants Manager - Nonprofit Federal Awards

Recipient-Side Grants Accounting, Reporting and Compliance Location: Close-in Montgomery County, Maryland – hybrid, three days onsite Engagement: Long-term contract project with potential for temporary-to-permanent conversion Compensation: $60+ per hour, depending on experience Project Overview Our nonprofit client has an immediate need for an experienced Grants Manager with hands‑on, recipient‑side responsibility for federal grant funds. The successful candidate will have worked within a nonprofit or other grantee organization that receives, accounts for and reports on federal awards—not solely for a federal agency that distributes or oversees grant funding. This is a long‑term contract assignment that may become a temporary‑to‑permanent opportunity. Key Responsibilities Manage the financial administration of federal grants received by the nonprofit, from approved budgets through reimbursement, reporting and closeout support. Review grant expenditures, reimbursement requests and supporting documentation for allowability, allocability and compliance with award terms, approved budgets and 2 CFR 200. Prepare and review drawdown and reimbursement packages, including invoices, purchase orders, change orders and other documentation supporting the release of federal funds. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial grant reports for management, program teams, funding agencies and other stakeholders. Monitor grant budgets, expenditures, fund balances and budget‑to‑actual results; investigate variances and identify potential compliance or funding issues. Confirm that grant costs are properly coded, supported and charged to the appropriate award and budget category. Monitor subrecipient financial activity and documentation and follow up on exceptions or missing support. Maintain audit‑ready grant files, support FAR/CAS‑related reporting where applicable, and respond to requests from auditors, funding agencies and other external reviewers. Partner with finance leadership and program staff to translate grant requirements into practical financial controls and reporting processes. Qualifications Required: Recent hands‑on grants accounting or financial management experience within a nonprofit or comparable grantee organization that receives and administers federal grant funds. Federal funding‑agency experience alone will not meet this requirement. Demonstrated experience with federal grant drawdowns or reimbursement requests, financial reporting, budget monitoring, cost documentation and compliance support. Strong working knowledge of 2 CFR 200/Uniform Guidance and federal cost allowability requirements from the grant recipient’s perspective. Experience applying FAR requirements and Cost Accounting Standards to large or complex federally funded awards is highly desirable. Bachelor’s degree in accounting and at least five years of relevant grants or accounting experience; alternatively, at least ten years of progressively responsible accounting experience. Ability to analyze grant agreements and budgets, identify compliance issues and prepare accurate reports with minimal supervision. Strong judgment, organization, communication and relationship‑management skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe. CPA is preferred but not required. #J-18808-Ljbffr Robert Joseph Group
