Material Handling Specialist

Warehouse ServicesProvides warehouse services assigned through safe, efficient, cost effective and accurate handling of customer products and material using specially equipped trucks such as slips-sheet, clamps and reach. This position may involve all phases of loading, unloading, staging and storage of customer's product as well as the use of computer equipment.ResponsibilitiesPulling OrdersAccurately locate and load, both by hand and using appropriate motorized equipment (i.e., forklift truck), customer product onto/from pallets, trays, racks and shelves according to established procedures and safety regulations. Is able to operate special equipment as necessary, such as a turret clamp and slip sheet equipment and RF unit (if applicable).Count, weigh and record number of units of materials handled on daily production sheet.Complete specialized order processing for loading by stenciling, slip-sheeting, shrink wrapping, labeling and consolidating as required on order.Operating & Maintenance - Equipment and GroundsAssign / verify trailers to appropriate dock and/or yard location, trailers locked to dock-lock and/ or chocking the wheels (if applicable), following all safety rules and Company policy.Daily inspect and repair or make adjustments before operating tow-motor vehicles, following safety and maintenance instructions, completing the tow-motor inspection sheet at the beginning of each shift and/or assigned to another piece of equipment; report immediately any defective equipment to supervisor.Prepare trailers prior to loading product by inspecting and cleaning as needed to ensure product preservation.Assists in building and grounds maintenance to ensure that the facility is maintained in a clean, neat safe and orderly manner.Loading & UnloadingLoad picked orders or (pull & load) according to policies and procedures, completing appropriate paperwork including Bill of Lading, Pick Report, Trailer Audit and Lot Verification.Unload, move, stack and stage customer products and materials both by hand and using forklift or other power equipment, keeping appropriate records and reports.ReportsComplete activity and statistical reports as assigned by supervisor.Assist in physical inventories ensuring facility and contents are secure.MiscellaneousProvide other services such as sanitation requirement activities, assembling crates (boxes) to contain products, and/or moving loose materials to containers as directed by supervisor and/or team leader.Health, Safety and EnvironmentFollow basic mandatory work instructions (including use of personal protection equipment where relevant) to safeguard the environment and the wellbeing of oneself and others.Additional InformationApply the APL Logistics Continuous Improvement (ACI) Model for operational efficiency to improve business process, increase proficiency and increase efficiency through waste elimination.Apply the 5S Lean methodology to sustain a safe, clean and orderly facility.Position requires the incumbent's performance to meet and occasionally exceed standards as set by the company for warehouse safety, food safety, sanitation, quality, productivity and customer service.QualificationsLicenses and CertificationsForklift CertificationExperiencePreferred two (2) years forklift/tow motor experience required (forklift certification required).Ability to operate forklift – both sit down and stand up, tow motor, motorized and non-motorized pallet jack; clamp, reach and slip sheet.Knowledge of inventory control and general warehouse procedures.Light data entry skills requiredAbility to read and comprehend basic instructions, to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and proceduresAbility to write legiblyMust have basic math skillsAbility to make decisions on customer acceptance based on past experience and fitness for useMust have attention to detail for continuous mental and visual attentionData entry skillsLanguage skills - EnglishMust be a Team PlayerAbility to communicate in a professional and positive mannerManagerial ExperienceNoneThe hourly wage for this position is $22.75.Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.Candidates are eligible for the following benefits:• Vacation• 6 days sick time• 8 paid holidays• 1 paid "Personal Holiday"• Company Bonus Plan• 401(K) SAVE Plan• Annual Fixed Contribution• Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life & Disability coverage• Voluntary Benefits• Accident/Critical Illness/Hospital Indemnity Benefits• Tuition reimbursement and student loan assistance• Employee Assistance Program (EAP)• Health Savings Account (HSA) with employer funding and wellness incentives• Flexible Spending Account (FSA)• Employee Referral ProgramAbout UsMAKING THE IMPOSSIBLE, POSSIBLE APL Logistics provides innovative, global supply-chain solutions across Automotive, Consumer, Industrial and Retail markets.
