Full Time Shift Day Work Schedule Summary VP Area U of U Health - Academics Department 00282 - Poison Control Center Location Campus City Salt Lake City, UT Type of Recruitment External Posting Pay Rate Range 90,000-130,000 Close Date 12/22/2026 Priority Review Date (Note - Posting may close at any time) Job Summary Specialists in poison information provide assessment, case management advice and follow-up care for emergency and instructional telephone calls received by the Utah Poison Control Center from the general public, public health, pre-hospital and health care professionals. They also precept students and provide didactic lectures in the College of Pharmacy. Responsibilities Provides verbal and written clinical toxicology consultation in response to emergency and informational telephone calls and completes documentation in computerized medical record system. Investigates case history, researches medical literature and consults appropriate sources to provide informed and proper treatment and triage recommendations and develops protocols that are medically and economically appropriate. Precepts PharmD students, pharmacy residents, emergency medicine residents and fellows. Prepares and delivers lectures on poisoning topics to internal and external audiences as needed. Participates in other outreach education activities, quality assurance activities and on-going clinical research projects as needed. Prepares information for and attends in-service sessions and staff meetings as needed. Minimum Qualifications This position requires licensure as a Pharmacist; current national certification as a Specialist in Poison Information or the ability to obtain the certification within 2 exam cycles; knowledge of human pathophysiology, clinical pharmacology and drug information; and demonstrated human relation, organization and effective communication skills. Poison Information Specialist certification requires passing an examination. Eligibility for the exam requires licensure as a Pharmacist or Registered Nurse, working 2000 hours in a Poison Information Center and fielding 2000 poison exposure calls. Certification must be renewed every seven years. This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Preferences This position requires licensure as a Pharmacist (or the ability to obtain Utah pharmacist licensure within 4 months of hire); the ability to obtain national SPI certification within 2 exam cycles (or become ABAT diplomat); knowledge of human pathophysiology, clinical pharmacology and drug information; and demonstrated human relation, organization and effective communication skills.
